It has 11 administrative villages (October 2019), and is a town with a relatively concentrated population. There are 8 villages in the town area of 2.5 square kilometers, and about 11 thousand people, accounting for 67.3% of the total number of towns.

Xiangdong town takes the lead in promoting lean pig breeding in Wuping County. Because it is located in the border between Fujian and Guangdong, it is strongly radiated by the economy of Guangdong, and the border trade economy is relatively active. More than 70% of the live agricultural and sideline products such as live pigs and Xiangdong chickens in the rural area are sold to Guangdong.

Ningxiang highway starts from Ningyang village, Yanqian Town, and crosses national highway 205. It passes through Ningyang village, Zhongduan village, Xingang village, Fuling village, Lianfang village, Zhanyang village, Dongzhai village, yangbei village, and ends at the junction of Xiangdong Town, Wuping County and Beiyi of Guangdong Province, connecting with 223 provincial highway of Guangdong Province.

History and culture

Red Culture

Xiangdong town is a famous old revolutionary base area. There are eight provincial revolutionary base villages in 11 villages of the town, which is known as "Three Firsts" of Wuping County,. In 1927, the first rural Party branch of Wuping County was established in baishikeng village, yangbei village; in the winter of 1928, the temporary county Party committee of Wuping County of the Communist Party of China was first established in Zhangtiantang village, Guangcai village; in September of 1929, the people of Xiangdong held armed riots under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, which started the second stage of Wuping people's armed seizure of power One shot. The old generation of proletarian revolutionaries such as Zhu De, Chen Yi, Zhang Dingcheng, Deng Zihui and Su Yu have been to Xiangdong for many times to guide the revolutionary struggle. At the same time, they have also come out of a group of old revolutionaries such as Chen Zhongping and Xie Bizhen, known as "the red flag will not fall in 20 years". The first revolutionary history exhibition room and township level book reading room in Wuping County have been built.

Famous people

Chen Zhongping

Chen Zhongping (1913-1993) was born in Zhangtiantang village, Guangcai village, Xiangdong Township, Wuping County. In 1929, he took part in the Xiang Dong uprising and embarked on the revolutionary road. In 1930, he joined the Communist Party of China. In 1949, he was transferred back to the west of Fujian Province to form Longyan Prefecture Committee and Longyan special office. He was the first Commissioner of Longyan special district office, and once served concurrently as secretary of Wuping County Party committee. In the winter of 1979, he served as deputy director of the philosophy teaching and research section of the Central Party school, and retired in 1982.

Xie Bizhen

Xie Bizhen (1916.9-2019.12.12), born in Guangcai village, is a member of the Communist Party of China, former member of the Party group, deputy director of the press and Publication Bureau of Fujian Province, and an old Red Army member. After his retirement in 1983, he continued to work for the party. He once served as deputy leader of the leading group for editing and reviewing the party history of the Fujian Guangdong Jiangxi border region and director of the Party History Office of the border region, member of the party history advisory group of the Fujian provincial Party committee, Consultant of the Fujian Hakka society, and vice president of the Fujian Provincial Association for the promotion of the aged.
