Shuiji town is located in the East Center of Jianyang district and the middle reaches of Nanpu river. Its geographical location is between 118 ` 14 '- 118 ` 25' e and 27 ` 31 '- 27 ` 30' n, with an altitude of 142m. Zhangdun town in the East, Youling Tongyou street in the West. It is adjacent to Xiaohu town in the South and Huilong Township in the north.

The land area is 273 square kilometers, high in the northeast and low in the southwest. The terrain is mostly low mountains and hills. The annual average rainfall is 1700mm, the annual average temperature is between 15C and 19C, the climate is warm in spring, cool in summer and autumn, and the heat is stronger than the cold.

History and culture

Shuiji has a long history and many places of interest still exist. There is a site of Jianyao in Song Dynasty. Jianzhan is located in Houjing and Chizhong village, covering an area of more than ten square meters. With the significance of eight kilns in Song Dynasty, the site of "Mian Hao Zhan", a black uranium ceramic, has been listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit. Dajuetan temple, one of the famous Buddhist temples in Northern Fujian, was built in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties.

Dajue Tan Temple

Dajue Tan Temple is located in Foshan mountain, jianggeng, 6 km southeast of Shitou village, Shuiji Town, Jianyang City. It was formerly known as dajue'an, also known as Dajue Miaozhi temple and Dajue temple. According to legend, it was built in the late Song Dynasty and the early Yuan Dynasty. Dajue'an, with the nature of a family temple, was built as a place for worshiping gods and offering sacrifices to Buddhas in the Xie family. After its completion, Wu Wenyuan, the son of kudihu, the emperor of Japan, came here to practice enlightenment and returned to Japan three years later.

The temple was originally a civil structure, with five rooms of the main hall. It was rebuilt by Xie Wenxiang in 1617. Dajue temple is famous for its Sutra collection. The Sutra collection pavilion was built in the fifth year of Jiaqing (1800) of the Qing Dynasty. It contains more than 50 volumes of "Daban Nirvana Sutra" printed in the 14th year of Wanli and "Huayan Sutra" reprinted in the 38th year of Wanli. It has a collection of more than 5000 books and more than 300 books.

From the Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, Dajue temple was renovated in different scales. At the beginning of the "Cultural Revolution" of the people's Republic of China, Dajue temple was seriously damaged. There are only four stone inscriptions erected during the reign of Emperor Kangxi and Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty in the temple, which respectively record the historical origin of the temple, the grand occasion of the Taoist temple, the property of the field, and the deeds of the Zen master. In addition, there is a large iron pan cast by the abbot in the winter of 1895. Dajue temple was designated as a cultural relic protection unit at the county level in August 1983 and officially opened at the end of the next year with approval. Since then, Dajue temple has been concerned and funded by local government leaders. After 1994, the abbot Xiuwen of Dajue temple has raised funds in many ways to build the road from Shuiji town to temple into cement pavement.

On September 8, 1995, a fire broke out in Dajue Temple because pilgrims lit candles. One Sutra collection building, covering an area of 220 square meters, was burned down. A number of precious cultural heritages, such as sutras, were burned, resulting in a direct economic loss of more than 40000 yuan. Now the temple has a construction area of 4000 square meters.
