Jiaowei town is located in the central and southern part of Xianyou County, Fujian Province, at the intersection of 324 National Highway, Jiaoyuan road and Sanming suburban road. It is one of the southeast portals and an important transportation hub of Xianyou County, 22 kilometers away from Xianyou County. Jiaowei town is located at the junction of Xianyou County and Putian County. It has formed commercial market spots such as Jiaowei street, Shaxi street and Meitang street since ancient times.

In the second year of the first Yuan Dynasty of the Western Han Dynasty (85 BC), it belonged to Yexian / Houguan County of Yangzhou. Jiaowei Town, located at the junction of Xianyou County and Putian County, belonged to xiangtianli, Xianyou County, Xinghua Prefecture in ancient times. It has formed commercial market spots such as Jiaowei street, Shaxi street and Meitang street since ancient times. Jiaowei town connects Huating town of Putian County (Chengxiang District) in the East, Laidian town in the west, Fengting town in the South and Gaiwei town in the north. Jiaowei commune was established in 1958. The township was changed in 1984 and the town was established in 1987.
