Taogou Township

Taogou township is located in the northeast of Yongqiao District, with well-developed road and water system. 302 provincial road, Suihe River, Shuangqing River and Guhe river run through the East and West, and the Beijing Shanghai high-speed railway has been built across the north and south. The township covers an area of 62.57 square kilometers, with a permanent resident population of 36203 (2017), and cultivated land of 55000 mu. It governs nine villages including Taogou, Suihe, Houzhai, Qizhuang, nanqin, Daqin, Daixia, Gengjia and Mawei, and 76 natural villages.

Taogou township has a long history. It is said that during the Warring States period, it was a plain where the Yellow River was silted up. During the Sui Dynasty, Yang Guang, emperor of the Sui Dynasty, visited the South and dug a big ditch here for the convenience of transporting grain. A few years later, peach trees grow in the ditch and on both sides of the river, and there are large peach forests on the bank. Every spring, the peach blossom is in full bloom and becomes a fair for a long time.

According to the records of Suzhou in the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, Taogou was 70 Li from Suzhou to Suzhou. Taogou was called Taohua County in ancient times, and later it was called Ji county. There was a big ditch nearby, and there were peach trees on the ditch, which was called Taogou Township.

There are 4 junior middle schools, 17 primary schools, 1 Township Health Center, 9 village clinics and 1 Township nursing home. By the end of 2008, all cement roads including roads, radio, cable TV and "village to village" will be covered.
