Yangshan town

Yangshan Town, also known as the rugged archipelago, is located at the intersection of Shengsi County, Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, the Yangtze River Estuary and Hangzhou Bay. It is the main maritime traffic road of Shanghai, Ningbo and Hangzhou, and faces Qushan island across the sea. It is an island town in the west of Shengsi county. The town governs 4 communities and 1 administrative village. The total population was 10710 (2017). It belongs to subtropical marine monsoon climate. The town has unique advantages in fishing, harbor, scenery, stone and other resources. The economy developed rapidly, with a GDP of 480 million yuan in 2005.

Location

Yangshan town is composed of 90 islands and reefs, including Dayang Island, Xiaoyang island and tanhu island. Xiaoyang island is 17 nautical miles away from Luchaogang Town, Nanhui District, Shanghai, and tanhu island is 12 nautical miles away from Jinwei port, Fengxian District, Shanghai. The land area of the town is 21 square kilometers, including Dayang Island 12.74 square kilometers, Xiaoyang Island 6.72 square kilometers and tanhu Island 1.90 square kilometers. With the development of Yangshan deep-water port, the ocean area actively reserves land resources, asks for land from the ocean, from islands and reefs, and vigorously carries out reclamation of shallow sea beach. The land area of Yangshan town is constantly expanding and increasing.

Historical evolution

Now Yangshan town. Since the 11th year of Liang Datong (535), there have been written records of Xiaoyang Island, which has a history of 1500 years. According to the records of Xiaoyang, Yangshan was densely populated as early as the Dai Dynasty. According to the records of Jinshan county annals and Chongming county annals of the Qing Dynasty, there were many sheep on the island, which was named "Yangshan". Because of the small area of the island, it was called "Xiaoyangshan". Later, it evolved into Xiaoyangshan, and Dayangshan was named after Xiaoyang. According to records in old records of the great ocean, Yangshan was densely populated as early as before the Southern Song Dynasty. Yangshan has been under the jurisdiction of Chongming, Jiangsu Province before liberation; Shengsi, Songjiang District, Southern Jiangsu Province after liberation in 1950; Zhoushan District, Zhejiang Province in 1953; Shanghai City in November 1960; and Daju County, Zhoushan District, Zhejiang Province in May 1962.
