Jiangsu Hongze economic development zone was established in October 2001 and approved as a provincial Economic Development Zone in April 2006. Hongze is located in the central part of Jiangsu Province, connecting Huaihe River in the south, Subei irrigation canal and water channel into the river in the north, and connecting the Yangtze River and Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is an important water corridor of South-to-North Water Transfer Project and an important water transportation hub in Huaihe River Basin. There are many expressways in and around Hongze.

Jiangsu Hongze economic development zone is located in the middle of Jiangsu Province, north of Hongze County, east of Hongze Lake, the fourth largest freshwater lake in China, west of Baima Lake, the fourth largest lake in Jiangsu Province, and north of Qingpu District, the main city of Huai'an City. Hongze economic development zone was established in October 2001 and approved as provincial Economic Development Zone in April 2006. The total planning area is about 96 square kilometers, and the built-up area is 15 square kilometers, including the manufacturing base in the west, the high-speed rail new town in the East, and the salt chemical new material industrial base in the north. The spatial pattern of one district and three parks has initially formed.

At present, there are more than 400 enterprises in the Development Zone, with 10000 employees, including nearly 20 foreign-funded and Taiwan funded enterprises in the United States, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan. More than 50 enterprises with independent intellectual property rights have applied for 2000 patents annually. At present, the enterprises in the region have initially adopted the 4+1 industrial system, which is mainly salinized new materials, metallurgy (equipment) machinery, modern textile, electronic information and Internet plus. In 2014, the development zone achieved 14.9 billion yuan of invoiced sales and 270 million yuan of warehousing tax, of which the invoiced sales of "4 + 1" leading industries reached 12.1 billion yuan, accounting for 81.2% of the total invoiced sales of the park, forming a preliminary industrial cluster; in 2014, the Development Zone signed 38 projects, including 22 projects with 100 million yuan. Hongze Economic Development Zone has also established three characteristic Parks: high tech Industrial Park, Eastern District entrepreneurship Park and software park. The high-tech industrial park covers an area of 256 mu, with 11 multi-storey standard workshops, each with four floors, covering an area of 15000 square meters to 22000 square meters. The Eastern Business Park covers an area of 720 Mu and a built-up area of 450 mu. Taking the construction of single and double span standard workshop in independent courtyard as the carrier. The standard workshop has three floors of office area and two floors of factory area. The single span of the workshop is 18 meters wide and the double span is 36 meters. The height of the first floor is 4.5 meters, the height of the second floor is 4.2 meters, and the length is about 90 meters. The enterprise can rent or purchase the workshop, or build its own workshop if it has special needs. The software park covers an area of 466 mu, with a total construction area of 500000 square meters. It is divided into six functional areas: headquarters base, business incubation, R & D center, service support, planning and exhibition, and apartment office. It is a third-generation software industrial park integrating scientific research, production, office, service, and leisure.

Ninghuai (Nanjing Huai'an) and Ninglian (Nanjing Lianyungang) expressways meet in the territory. There are many expressways around, such as Beijing Shanghai Expressway, Nanjing Suzhou Xuzhou expressway, xuhuaiyan expressway, etc., which can reach Nanjing in one hour, Shanghai in four hours and Beijing in eight hours.

Water transport:

Inland river transportation is very developed, and enterprises along the river can build their own docks. From North Jiangsu irrigation canal to Xuzhou, Jining, Tianjin and Beijing via Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal, to South Jiangsu, Shanghai, Huzhou and Hangzhou via Yangtze River, and up Huaihe River to Bengbu, Kaifeng, Huainan, Zhoukou, Xuchang and Pingdingshan.

Railway:

It is 40 km (half an hour) away from Huai'an station of Xinchang railway, and 120 km (1.5 hours) away from Nanjing station. The construction of Nanjing Huaihe intercity railway is progressing smoothly, and Hongze will become the "suburb" of Nanjing by then.

By air:

It is 80 km away from Huai'an Lianshui airport and 200 km away from Nanjing Lukou Airport.

Port:

Customs declaration procedures for goods import and export can be handled at Huaian customs. Customs clearance can be made in ports such as Lianyungang, Nanjing and Zhangjiagang, 180 km from Lianyungang, 280 km from Nanjing port and 535 km from Shanghai Pearl Harbour.
