Xunyi paper-cut originated in the Han Dynasty, mainly spread in Zhanghong Town, taicun Town, Zhitian town and qiquatou Township in the northernmost Xunyi County of Guanzhong area in Shaanxi Province. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, Xunyi paper-cut had evolved from monochrome paper-cut to color paste paper-cut. In Xunyi, paper-cut is a necessary skill for local women. In their daily life, they need to cut window and wall paintings on New Year's day, cut instrument curtains on weddings and funerals, cut ceiling flowers and Kang flowers for new house decoration. As for the base pattern of clothing embroidery, the pattern on huamo and the ritual of greeting gods and ghosts, they are also inseparable from paper-cut decoration.

Xunyi color paste paper-cut is made of colorful glossy paper, which is cut, pasted and lined to form a picture. The composition of the work is full and full, the color is harmonious and brilliant, and the taste is full. Xunyi color paste paper-cut pictures can be large or small, the maximum size of more than 4 meters, and each piece of work has a corresponding ballad. When paper-cut artists are doing paper-cut, they create and sing at the same time. Most of the contents are local opera stories, fairy tales and so on.

At present, the age structure of Xunyi paper-cut artists is generally too big, facing the dilemma of no successor.
