The origin of place names

Tuanfeng has a unique geographical location. The Yangtze River is divided into three parts. Zuojiang, Youjiang and Zhongjiang closely encircle the two sandbanks. Tuanfeng is the highland of rivers and lakes, forming a natural wind barrier. The port conditions are superior. Ships often park here to avoid the wind, so it is called "Tuanfeng".

There is another saying that the river Ganhua of the old state converges here and flows into the long river. The current is turbulent. Tuanfeng has the homonym Tuanfeng, so it is called "Tuanfeng".

History of construction

Tuanfeng was the territory of Jingzhou in Xia and Shang Dynasties.

In the Qin Dynasty, Huanggang was the South County.

During the Three Kingdoms period, Huanggang was called Xiling and Xiyang County.

In the Western Jin Dynasty, it was renamed Hengzhou.

In the 18th year of kaihuang reign of Sui Dynasty, Hengzhou was changed to Huangzhou and Nan'an to Huanggang. Huanggang county was named after Huanggang mountain in the east of Huangzhou City.

Tuanfeng, as a place name, began in Yuanfeng jiuyu annals of Northern Song Dynasty.

In the Ming Dynasty, Huanggang County belonged to Huangzhou Prefecture. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Tuanfeng area has been subordinate to Huanggang county and located in Huangzhou Prefecture.

In 1949, after the founding of the people's Republic of China, the whole territory was liberated, and Tuanfeng town was set up in Huanggang county.
