Daye Daye, a county-level city under the jurisdiction of Hubei Province, is managed by Huangshi City. In 1664, the county belonged to Wuchang Prefecture.

From 1723 to 1735, Hubei Province was set up, which was divided into Huguang province and Wuchang Prefecture.

In 1921, after the founding of the Republic of China, the government was abandoned and the road was changed. The county belonged to Jianghan Road of Hubei Province, and the latter road was abandoned and subordinate to Hubei Province.

In 1930, the Soviet government of Daye county was established, which successively belonged to the "Eastern Hubei Revolutionary Committee", "Eastern Hubei Office of Hunan Hubei Jiangxi Soviet government" and "Southeast Hubei Soviet government of Hunan Hubei Jiangxi Province".

In 1932, the national government set up the "Office of administrative inspector of Hubei Province" between the provinces and counties. At that time, the county was the second special office of Hubei Province. In 1935, it became the first special office.

On August 15, 1945, Japan announced its surrender. The Kuomintang Daye county government took over the power of Daye county and restored the towns of lime kiln and huangshigang under the jurisdiction of Daye county.

In 1949, the Chinese people's Liberation Army liberated Shihuang town on May 1. On May 15, Daye was liberated. Without the approval of the Central Plains provisional people's government, the "Hubei Daye Special Zone Office" was set up under the leadership of the Central Plains provisional people's government.

On June 16, 1950, the people's Government of Hubei Province applied to the Central South military and political Commission for the reorganization of the Shihuang mining area into a city, named Shihuang city. On August 21, 1950, Huangshi City was officially established.

In June 1952, Daye county was under the jurisdiction of Huanggang special office.

On January 26, 1959, Daye county was designated as Huangshi City from Huanggang area. In December 1959, Daye county was abolished and incorporated into Huangshi City.

On June 1, 1962, Daye county was restored and still belongs to Huangshi City.

On March 12, 1982, the State Council announced that the Tonglushan ancient mining site in Daye is a national key cultural relic protection unit (in 2001, the site was listed in 100 archaeological discoveries in China in the 20th century).

On February 18, 1994, with the approval of the State Council, Daye county was abolished and Daye City (county level) was established. On January 1, 1995, Daye City was officially established and managed by Huangshi City.
