Synopsis
Author Melvin < I > (Jack Nicholson) < / I > is a cranky old man with obsessive-compulsive disorder. He had no family and no friends, and he shut himself in all day writing novels. His life is as precise as a clock, and he can't stand any interruptions. Melvin's neighbor Simon < I > (Greg ginnier) < / I > is a young gay painter and has a cute puppy. He was lively and mild tempered, but he was often insulted by Melvin. Melvin only goes out once a day and eats at the same restaurant. Carol cornelli (Helen Hunt) < / I > is the only one willing to serve Melvin. Carol divorced and lived with her son Spencer. With Spencer suffering from severe asthma, many men who are interested in Carol are reluctant to leave. One day, Simon's house was robbed and Simon was seriously injured. Simon entrusted the dog to Melvin's care before he was hospitalized. As Melvin gradually fell in love with the dog, his psychology also changed. He began to pay attention to the world around him, not only actively helping others, but also seriously examining his good feelings for Carol.
