The origin of Idioms
In Yuan Dynasty, Zheng Dehui wrote Yiyin Gengshen: "when GaiFan ascended to heaven, he first took part in the poor way and gave the immortal formula. Only after he had a thorough understanding, could he really observe the beginning of the Ninth Heaven Dynasty."
Idiom usage
It means to understand thoroughly. The fourth chapter of the sequel to Lao Can's travels by Liu e of Qing Dynasty: "by this time, I seem to have a clear understanding, don't I?"
