The origin of Idioms

In the preface to sending Zheng Shangshu written by Han Yu of Tang Dynasty, it is said that "there is no way to cure the disputes, but the grass is shaved and the birds are served, and the pain of the roots and plants is stopped."

Idiom usage

It means cruelty. How can we not choose right from wrong, and do not care if we want to cut grass and serve birds? (Zizhitongjian, the third year of emperor zongtianfu of Tang Jizhao)
