Yang ronghua lived from the first year of Yonghui reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty to the beginning of Zaichu reign of Empress Wu of Tang Dynasty (650-690). He was born in Huayin (now in Huayin of Shaanxi Province) and was the niece of Yang Jiong, a four outstanding scholar in the early Tang Dynasty.

In Cheng Yuwen's Yuanyang die of the Ming Dynasty, it is said that "Yang ronghua, who is famous for her bright voice, is not a group. She should be matched with Wang Zian, Luo Binwang and Lu Shengzhi.
