Listening is more important than speaking

In communication, many people are often anxious to express their opinions, and ignore others, so that the effect of communication is greatly reduced. Listening refers to standing on the other side's position and understanding the other side's meaning. It includes not only listening to what the other person says, but also experiencing the meaning of the other person's words, paying attention to his gestures, facial expressions, tones and body language, and then giving appropriate and short reactions to what he hears and observes, such as "so it is..." "Yes..." And nodding to let the other person know you're listening will also make the other person feel respected.

Listening has the following attitudes:

(1) Focus, no criticism. Any suggestion given without the other party's request may be regarded as criticism.

(2) Whether it's him or her talking, you have to concentrate. Often when our partner talks to us, we either think about what to say next, or focus on other things, such as preparing dinner or watching TV.

(3) Listen with emotion, not judgment. What your partner says is just a simple way to express your feelings. These feelings are valuable information for you. Don't say, "you can't think that!" Instead, ask him, "it's not how you feel. Am I right?"

(4) Don't interrupt. Sooner or later it will be your turn to speak. When the mouth is closed, the words are heard most clearly.
