Su Dongpo Memorial Hall

It is next to Yingbo bridge at the south end of Suzhou dike of West Lake in Hangzhou, adjacent to Leifeng Pagoda, Jingsi, Huagang fish watching, and across the road from Zhang Taiyan memorial hall, Zhang cangshui temple and Taiziwan park. It covers an area of 4200 square meters and a construction area of 550 square meters. It was built on December 28, 1988. Reform and opening up in 2004. The memorial is open. The museum area is composed of the main building exhibition hall, stele Gallery, Baipo Pavilion, sprinkling moon Pavilion, etc. The main building of the memorial hall is a two-story Pavilion like building with angled cornice. Red windows and white walls, clear and square. Under the magnolia tree in the square in front of the building stands the statue of Su Dongpo, 3 meters high, carved from granite. Su Dongpo memorial hall is composed of courtyard, two-story exhibition hall and Dongpo Shiyuan. On the first floor are displayed Su Dongpo's genealogy, chronology and biography, highlighting his achievements as a local official twice in Hangzhou and his literary and artistic achievements in Hangzhou; on the second floor are displayed Su Dongpo's poetry works, calligraphy and painting manuscripts, as well as calligraphy and painting works created by contemporary famous calligraphers and painters on the theme of Su Dongpo's poetry. The whole exhibition hall integrates calligraphy and painting, couplets and steles, with guzheng playing and singing. There are rubbings, reproductions and poetic paintings of Su Dongpo's calligraphy and paintings on display in the Dongpo art garden in the backyard for tourists to visit and purchase.

Su Dongpo Memorial Hall

There are three Su Dongpo memorial halls in China, namely, Hangzhou West Lake Su Dongpo memorial hall, Huizhou West Lake Su Dongpo Memorial Hall and Huanggang Su Dongpo Memorial Hall. West Lake Su Dongpo memorial hall is a famous celebrity Memorial Hall beside the dike. It is located in the south corner of the famous West Lake Su dike, adjacent to Leifeng Pagoda, Jingsi, Huagang fish watching, and across the road from Zhang Taiyan memorial hall, Zhang cangshui temple and Taiziwan park. The memorial hall was built and opened in 1989, covering an area of 4200 square meters and a construction area of 550 square meters. It is composed of the exhibition hall of the main building, stele Gallery, Baipo Pavilion, sprinkling moon Pavilion, etc. it is decorated with white walls, dark tiles and exquisite. A stone statue of Su Dongpo stands on the left side of the entrance of the Su dyke. Its clothes are floating and its head is high. It seems that it is still telling the feelings of relatives with the people in Hangzhou.

The whole exhibition hall integrates calligraphy and painting, couplets and steles, with guzheng playing and singing. There are rubbings, reproductions and poetic paintings of Su Dongpo's calligraphy and paintings on display in the Dongpo art garden in the backyard for tourists to visit and purchase. In the corridor of the stele, there are 40 pieces of calligraphy, including his famous Ode to the red cliff and the tiger running in the spring, as well as three works, namely, the painting of three Su, the painting of Xiuzhu and the self portrait.

In 2004, the memorial hall of Su Dongpo was comprehensively renovated, including display renovation, building renovation, and greening adjustment. After the renovation, the memorial hall of Su Dongpo has become a highlight of the new 15 scenes of West Lake scenic area. The exhibition hall of the main building of the memorial hall is divided into two floors. The first floor displays Su Dongpo's life stories, mainly his achievements and anecdotes in Hangzhou. The second floor mainly displays Su Dongpo's literary and artistic achievements during his stay in Hangzhou. At the same time, outdoor stairs are added to guide visitors to the stele gallery to enjoy Su Dongpo's calligraphy and stele inscriptions in various periods. In terms of display, it breaks through the pattern of pictures plus words in the general people's memorial hall, introduces new high-tech techniques, and adopts a series of dynamic display methods, such as ink animation, dynamic light box, music poem recitation, etc., which gives people a refreshing feeling.
