Cheng Shifa Art Museum

Cheng Shifa Art Museum, a master of Shanghai style traditional Chinese painting, is located at the entrance of the east end of Huating old street, Zhongshan Middle Road, Songjiang old city. The museum opened in 2009, covering an area of more than 2000 square meters. Its architectural style is ancient architecture of Ming and Qing Dynasties, and its name is inscribed by Wu Bangguo. The museum has five areas: life exhibition area, authentic works exhibition area, living scene area, public exhibition area and administrative office area.

Cheng Shifa Art Museum

Located at the east end of Huating old street in Songjiang old city, Cheng Shifa Art Museum, which was set up to commemorate Cheng Shifa (1921-2007), a master of Shanghai style Chinese painting, officially opened on April 10, 2009, the 88th anniversary of his birth.

General situation

Covering an area of 2541 square meters, the museum is an ancient building of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The front door of the museum is decorated with cornices and brick carvings. On the right side of the door is Wu Bangguo's inscription "Cheng Shifa Art Museum" in gold relief; on the left side is Cheng Shifa's self portrait and calligraphy in stone.

Cheng Shifa Art Museum has six areas: life exhibition area, authentic works exhibition area, living scene area, public exhibition area, art seminar area and administrative office area. Among them, the authentic works exhibition area displays 80 paintings and calligraphy collections of ancient masters donated by Cheng Shifa to the people of his hometown in November 2005 and his own works, and restores the scenes of Cheng Shifa's life in Songjiang from 1923 to 1951.

The ancient architecture of Cheng Shifa art museum is deeply related to Mr. Cheng Shifa. The life exhibition area is Qu's house, and the host Qu Jikang is Cheng Shifa's good friend when he was young. They co performed Beijing Opera "empty city plan" in Songjiang in 1946. The exhibition area of the original works is Wang's house, and the owner's name is Wang Zhishan. In 1938, Cheng Shifa was admitted to the Department of traditional Chinese painting of Shanghai Academy of fine arts from Songjiang; in 1940, Cheng Shifa married Zhang Jinqi, a classmate of Shanghai Academy of fine arts, on the Zouma tower of Wangzhai; in 1950, Cheng Shifa created his first comic book "wild boar forest" here, and then created many comic books. The building in the public exhibition area is Yuan Chang's old house, which has no direct living relationship with Cheng Shifa. However, Mr. Cheng Shifa loved reading biography of Yuan Chang since childhood, and had a long-standing relationship with him. Yuan Chang was a Jinshi in the reign of Emperor Guangxu. He opposed Cixi's attack on foreign embassies. Eight Allied forces invaded Beijing, Zaiyi lied about conquering the enemy, Yuan Chang wrote to expose the truth and was killed. Mr. Cheng Shifa once commented: "the owner of the old house next to my house, Yuan Chang, was a great figure in the Qing Dynasty."

The site of Cheng Shifa art museum was selected by Cheng Shifa himself when he returned to his hometown in 2005. "My ancestral home is in Fengjing town, Lou County, Songjiang Prefecture (now Fengjing town, Jinshan District), and my former home is in Songjiang City," he said. Wangzhai is my hometown, the home where I have lived for decades. " He also said that he would donate the last batch of famous paintings collected by his family and his own works to Songjiang, which raised him. In order to respect Mr. Cheng Shifa's wishes, the Museum of art has set up a genuine exhibition area. At the same time, the design style of the art museum is combined with Mr. Cheng Shifa's kind and easygoing voice, face and appearance, presenting a simple style of ancient simplicity, peace and charm.

A bronze statue of Cheng Shifa is placed in the front hall of the art museum. The stone arch bridge of Songjiang is in the background, as if Cheng Shifa is walking down from the bridge. The museum's life exhibition area is based on the memories and historical materials of Cheng Shifa's eldest son Cheng Zhu. It displays a large number of precious historical photos, life objects and the original publications of Cheng Shifa's works.

The Yimen signboard, couplets and ground brocade patterns of the art museum not only contain the traditional culture of Songjiang, but also are closely related to the cultural interest of Mr. Cheng Shifa. Mr. Cheng Shifa likes to paint Songjiang four gilled perch, and often uses "perch native", "Cheng Shifa in the clouds" and "Songjiang native" as his calligraphy and painting.

The large-scale brick murals on the square of the art museum create dozens of cultural celebrities, such as Lu Ji and Lu Yun of Jin Dynasty, Zhao Mengfu (f ǔ) and four masters of Yuan Dynasty, Dong Qichang, Chen Jiru and Cheng Shifa of Ming Dynasty. The mural, named "Moyuan", shows the cultural scene of the ancients before Songjiang and the comers after Songjiang.
