Longtou Hill

Longtou mountain is located in the livable township of Youyang County, Wuling Mountain Area in the southeastern border of Chongqing. It is the birthplace of Chinese Tujia culture with beautiful scenery and outstanding people.

Longtou mountain is 1800 meters high and covers an area of 4000 mu. It is the second highest mountain in Youyang. It is adjacent to the Apeng River in the East, gongtan in the West and Yanhe in Guizhou. In history, it was as famous as Fanjing Mountain, a famous Buddhist mountain.

Famous Buddhist mountains

I've heard that Longtou mountain was as famous as Fanjing Mountain. Every year on February 19, June 19 and September 19 of the lunar calendar, a large number of pilgrims come to worship from Guizhou, Hunan, Hubei and other places, but I haven't been able to see it.

In order to have a deeper understanding of the history of Buddhism in our county, on the 9th, I paid a special visit to Xie taishuang, the person in charge of livable township. It was not an interview, but a casual chat. From him, I know that Longtou mountain is a comprehensive tourist destination integrating natural landscape, religious culture and folk customs.

On that day, Mrs. Xie introduced me to many historical sites. Originally, he mainly introduced me to the tourism development plan of Longtou mountain.

The next day coincided with the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, we drove to Cangling town first, had a simple rest, and then drove to Longtou mountain scenic spot by friends of Longtou mountain leisure villa.

All the way is village road, the road condition is not very good, the soil road surface, potholes, more than 20 kilometers away, about an hour to the top of the mountain. At the end of the road is the stone forest, and behind the stone forest is a large area of grassland. The cattle and sheep on the grassland are happy, which makes people feel like they are in heaven. It's still 3 kilometers to walk to the top of Longtou mountain. The guide joked that what we pay attention to is sincerity.

Standing at an altitude of more than 1800 meters in Jinding Longtou temple, looking around at the cliffs and gorgeous flowers at the foot of the temple, there is a kind of feeling of climbing to the top of the mountain. Although the temple built in an unknown age collapsed due to disrepair, the square stones used as the foundation of the temple were still placed together regularly. Pilgrims who came to visit the temple drank a bowl of water from the temple and still did not forget to pay homage to monk Luo's tomb beside the temple. We can still see the prosperous incense here.

Following the pilgrims worshiping Buddha, we began to march to the Sanhuang cave halfway up the mountain. Walking hand and foot through the steep Jindao gorge, which can only be passed by one person, and passing through the sky ladder, we all come to the "human ladder" that we will see when performing acrobatics. Every step feels so exciting.

The most dangerous place in Longtou mountain is the Shesheng bridge, which is a stone slab placed on two huge stones. As the name suggests, it is easy for people to lose their lives when they walk up.

After walking the steep mountain road, I finally came to Feiling temple in Sanhuang cave. On the plaque above the gate of the temple, there are three big characters: "Guanyin hall", and on both sides, it is written in couplet that "all the events are empty, and all the merits are boundless.". The temple has a door, but there is no lock, and there is no abbot, so pilgrims and tourists can freely enter and watch, or make divination and vows in the Guanyin hall. Next to Guanyin hall, a mountain spring flows out from Sanhuang cave.

According to reports, many pilgrims go to the Guanyin hall to make a wish, often taking the water from the cave as holy water with bottles.

According to legend, Feiling temple was built by monk Luo Huayuan. One day many years ago, monk Luo traveled to Longtou mountain. Seeing that Longtou mountain towered into the clouds and the mountainside was covered with mist, he made love to the farmers at the foot of the mountain. He wanted to go up to the mountain to see the Oriental glass world paved by the morning glow and the western Paradise stained by the sunset. But the villagers advised him to give up the idea. They said that there were tigers and white dragons blocking the way on the mountain road, and even hunters often took their lives when they went up to the mountain. However, monk Luo insisted on going up the mountain.

After more than three months of arduous trekking, monk Luo climbed seven steep mountains, crossed nine rapids and went through all kinds of hardships. When he arrived at Sanhuang cave, he was so tired that he fainted. When monk Luo woke up, he heard the sound of the mountain spring Ding Dong, so he climbed over and drank a few mouthfuls. After a rest, he felt refreshed. Looking around at the cliffs, the mountain flowers are brilliant and fragrant. Monk Luo felt that this was the Holy Land in his heart, so he built the temple again.

The release of the soul in solemnity has nothing to do with being a believer or not

Entering the hall of Avalokitesvara, you can see the Buddha Hall: there are Avalokitesvara statues in the middle hall, and several statues on both sides of the hall. Three incense sticks are inserted in the censer, which means one worships Buddha, one respects Dharma and one respects monk.

On a huge wooden drum in front of the statue of Buddha, there is a historical ox horn hexagram. The guide said that this hexagram has a history of several decades. In the past, it was used for divination by some people. There was no morning bell and evening drum, no chanting sound. Only devout Buddhists and famous tourists gradually released their souls in front of the ethereal Buddhist hall.

Local catering

Due to the large number of pilgrims, many villagers had a meal. Some sell paper money for incense candles, some roast whole sheep, and many people come from the foot of the mountain to sell tartary buckwheat cake, rice tofu, green tofu, rice noodles and other local snacks. Others set up drug stalls to sell wild Gastrodia elata, Coptis chinensis, rhubarb, Aucklandia and Codonopsis pilosula. An old Chinese medicine doctor surnamed Gou sold more than 3000 yuan these two days.

Tian Jilan, a barbecue seller in Youyang County, has set up four barbecue shops on the mountain and used an engineering car to tow a generator to generate electricity. She said that no one on them sells barbecue. If the weather is good, it will not be a problem to earn ten thousand yuan in two days.

"Now our reception capacity is limited. We will expand our housing this year, and our income will be even greater in the future." Because of the large number of guests, Tian Huapan's family received thousands of tourists, and each person charged 10 yuan according to his head, earning tens of thousands of yuan in two days. Tian Jianbo, who works in Luzhou, Sichuan Province, also specially asked for leave to help his brother's family greet guests. However, due to too many guests, the family was busy until 3 a.m. on the 6th. Many guests still couldn't eat, and some could only use instant noodles and biscuits to satisfy their hunger.

Longwang mountain, Hunan Province

Longtou mountain has an endless spring, which is called Longwang saliva. It is crystal clear and sweet, pure and delicious. The spring flows from the deep valley to the mountain pass like a silver hook, zigzagging and falling. There used to be a small bridge on the stream. There was a natural stone cave at the end of the bridge. The mouth of the cave was small and hollow as an urn. The spring water dripping into the cave was pleasant and continuous all the year round. The local people called it Dishui cave or diaoshui cave, which was the original source of the name of Dishui cave. So the whole valley became famous, known as dishuichong. It seems that dishuichong is not as smooth as Dishui cave. Over time, the villagers call it Dishui cave.

On the top of Longtou mountain, you can see a strange rock on the ridge, which looks like a dragon scale, playing with rattan and chasing wood. It looks like a natural stone painting. Standing on the dragon's head, you can see: in the southwest, there are thousands of blue mirrors and thousands of hectares of fertile land; in the East, there are two mountains, Muzi and zhurong; in the northeast, there are many buildings in shaoshanchong; in the south, Shaofeng is like a column, towering like the sky. In the green cluster nearby, a 20 meter tall blue stone stands abruptly. There is no place to lean on it. The two pieces are contiguous in size. It looks like a mother cuddling her child. It is locally known as "Guanyin stone", also known as "Guanyin baozi". The top of the stone is flat and can seat three or five people. Because it is under the dragon's head, it is also called Denglong platform.

At the foot of Longtou mountain, peach trees are dancing. In early spring and February, the trees are full of flowers, white or pink, like brocade, like rosy clouds. In the scorching sun and hot summer, cherries are hanging all over the branches, white and red, fragrant and attractive.

Longtou mountain, Guangxi Province

In Wuming County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, it is the main peak of Daming mountains, with an altitude of 1760 meters. It is also called Longtou mountain.

Longtou mountain stands on the edge of the sky. There is a beautiful legend about the origin of Longtou mountain. It is said that a poor old man of Zhuang Nationality in ancient times had no children. One cold winter, he picked up a little snake which was about to freeze to death in the wild. He took it home and raised it. The little snake gradually grew into a little dragon, named "Dulong" (Zhuang means a male dragon). The old man regards "the only dragon" as his only child and takes good care of it. After the old man passed away, the "dragon" alone built a stone, piled up into a towering mountain, buried the old man on the top of the mountain. That mountain is today's Longtou mountain.
