Huaihe Cultural Square

Huaihe culture square is a modern city square integrating culture, business and leisure, which shows the style of the 21st century. The square is designed by PTW design company of Australia and Bengbu Glass Industry Design and Research Institute, with the cooperation of 19 professional design units; 56 enterprises including Beijing Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. entered the construction site, and more than 5000 people directly participated in the design, construction and management of the square. The Exhibition Center won the Luban Prize in 2005.

Huaihe Cultural Plaza in Bengbu City is located in the New Town Comprehensive Development Zone of Bengbu City and the old airport area of Bengbu City. The Plaza covers an area of 150000 square meters with a total investment of 300 million yuan. The foundation of the Plaza project was laid in November 2002 and was completed and opened on October 1, 2006. It is a modern city square built to meet the city's rapid economic development and people's growing demand for spiritual and cultural life.

Building complex

When you enter the square, you can see the stars shining on the new appearance of Bengbu Convention and Exhibition Center, Bengbu Grand Theater, Bengbu science and Technology Library and other single buildings, dotted with various urban sculptures, music fountains, landscape lighting and green belts. Bengbu Convention and Exhibition Center is a landmark building in Bengbu City, which has become an important place for holding various expositions, exhibitions, investment fairs and other large-scale activities; Bengbu Grand Theater integrates various cultural exchange activities such as song and dance performances, drama performances, etc., making Bengbu people's desire to pursue high-grade spiritual, cultural and artistic enjoyment a reality; Bengbu science and technology library will also take a brand-new concept and a new stage With advanced equipment and technology, it has become a "treasure land of wisdom" for the people of the whole city.

Convention and Exhibition Center

Looking down from the air, Bengbu Convention and Exhibition Center looks like a huge historical book carrying the spirit of Dayu. From the side, it looks like an infinite symbol, which symbolizes the cultural essence of long history, integration of North and south, and extensive collection of all advantages. The exterior colors of the East and West parts on the top are light green and beige, which not only symbolizes Jingshan and Tushan, but also indicates Bengbu is located in the North-South natural boundary Geographical location: the red building on the north side is the news center, which is like a sharp axe, implying that Dayu split the mountains and led the Huai River.

Culture

On the square, mounds of earth stand opposite each other, namely jingshanyuan and tushanyuan. On the Jingshan garden stands the sculpture of "the ancestor of humanity", which originated from the pottery figurines with human faces unearthed from the early Neolithic sites in the Huaihe River basin about 7000 years ago. According to textual research, the figure should be Fuxi, which shows that Fuxi was worshipped by the ancestors of Huaihe River Basin 7000 years ago. On the Tushan garden, five granite pillars of different heights are carved with characters and patterns reflecting the ancient history of the Huaihe River Basin. This is called "Huaxia pillar". It is said that the word "Huaxia" actually refers to "the prosperous Xiahou tribe and the Xia Dynasty", which is closely related to the establishment of the Xia Dynasty by Dayu's son Qi.

Facing the Jingtu garden and the west side of the science and Technology Library, the "light of wisdom" sculpture is located. The sculpture integrates the three cultural giants Laozi, Zhuangzi, Huainanzi and their works nurtured by the water of the Huaihe River, showing the profound cultural heritage of the Huaihe River Basin. The large relief "Ode to Dayu" on the wall of science and Technology Library describes Dayu's great achievements in water control in the form of art, and the end of the relief "must repair the Huaihe River" reflects the inheritance of Dayu's spirit in the new era.

Design significance

The completion of Huaihe cultural square not only creates an open public space for Bengbu, an important town in Northern Anhui with the reputation of "Pearl City", but also provides a multifunctional "city living room" integrating leisure, entertainment, sightseeing and learning for Bengbu people. Moreover, it is of positive significance to establish Bengbu's image, improve its functions and enhance its taste. The overall design of the square is based on Huaihe culture, focusing on the concept of people-oriented, gathering popularity, highlighting characteristics and creating the future. Many buildings in the square solidify the historical inheritance of Huaihe culture.
