Zhang Gongzhong is the son-in-law of Tang Shaoyi, the first Prime Minister of the Republic of China, and a Chinese director of the British concession in Tianjin. He was the Chinese Consul General in Honolulu and later became an American.
The residence is along Huayuan road in the East, Xinhua Road in the south, Chifeng Road in the West and Liaoning Road in the north. It covers an area of 591 square meters and a construction area of 754 square meters. It is a three story western style building designed by Bonetti, a famous Italian architect. The main body is on the second floor, and the external eaves are decorated with cement. The entrance is set at the corner of the building, with a sloping top hall and an arc balcony. In the middle of the building, the two sides are protruding, the top floor is equipped with octagonal pavilion, and the two sides are equipped with open platform. The shape of the building is high and low, with distinct layers, exquisite and unique shape, rich in aesthetic feeling. The building has a living room, a flower hall, a dining room, a cloakroom and a bedroom. It is a villa style private house with English style in the French concession. The building is in good condition.
