Beichang river is located between Yuquan mountain and Summer Palace in Haidian District. Historically, it was the main water source in Beijing, originated from Yuquan mountain "the first spring in the world", and flowed into Kunming Lake through Qinglong sluice. Then from the South River to the "three seas" in the city. After the spring water of Yuquan mountain stopped flowing, it became a drainage channel. In 1965, Jingmi diversion canal was built, Qinglong sluice was abolished, and an river sluice was built. In 1977, the end of Beichang river was changed to Anhe sluice, and part of the original river channel was occupied by Jingmi diversion canal. Drain or make up water to Jingmi diversion canal through Sanyuan sluice. The river course is 1.2km long, the upper mouth is 30m-40m wide, and the drainage area is 8.75km2.
