Haiyantang is a landmark building of Yuanmingyuan, second only to yuanyingguan, which is a European landscape.
The main building of Haiyan hall faces to the west, with 11 upper and 11 lower rooms. There are overlapping water spouts on the left and right sides of the door. At the bottom of the steps is a large water fountain. The bronze statues of human body and animal head of the twelve Chinese zodiac animals (the bronze statues of animal head of Yuanmingyuan) are arranged in an "eight" shape on the left and right sides of the fountain. Twelve hours a day and night, the twelve zodiac animals spray water in turn. At noon, the twelve bronze statues spray spring water at the same time. These bronze statues are designed by Westerners and made in China. They integrate Eastern and Western cultures, commonly known as "water clock".
