Jiuyanlou

In the north of Beijing, 21 kilometers northwest of Chengguan Town, Huairou District, at the south foot of heituo mountain. Located at the junction of Huairou County and Yanqing County. Because there are 9 arrow windows on each side of the enemy tower, it is named. It is also called Wangjing tower because of its high mountains and the prospect of reaching Beijing on a sunny day. It is one of the important passes of the Great Wall. The altitude is 1141 meters.

Jiuyanlou

Jiuyanlou natural scenic spot is located on the main peak of Huoyanshan, 9km southeast of Sihai town. It is the largest and highest building on the Great Wall. It has been developed into "jiuyanlou Great Wall natural scenic spot" and is open to tourists. The scenic spot has high mountains and deep valleys, large area, lush vegetation, quiet environment and magnificent scenery.

Historical records

"Yanqing County gazetteer of Beijing city" records: "jiuyanlou is Wang Yijian, governor of Jiajing 20 (1543 A.D.) in the Ming Dynasty. There are big and small red gates in the middle, Chadao Yangtou mountain in the West and sihaiye in the East. It is 160 Li long, with five entrances and 14 piers around the red gate. Jiuyanlou, 7.8 meters high, is located in Huoyanshan, 5 miles south of Shiyao village, Sihai Township, the easternmost part of the wall. There are nine observation holes connecting the three side walls. If there are police in Sihai, the fire from the side wall of Nanshan can reach Juyong Pass in an instant. " This record tells us that jiuyanlou is more than 450 years old. At the same time, it also tells us its important military significance.

Jiuyanlou

Jiuyanlou is a square double-layer building, named for its nine observation holes on each side. It has one floor, 7.8 meters high and 13 meters on each side. The observation hole is 1.65 meters high and 0.5 meters wide. There is a 1.2 meters wide circular footpath for sergeants to visit. The lower part of jiuyanlou is built with stone strips, and the upper part is built with lime green bricks, which is very solid and magnificent. There is a small platform on the west side of the downstairs, where the sergeants gather. On the north side of the platform, there are brick steps, along which the South Gate of the building can be reached. The roof of the building is a brick arched structure. The building is wide and can be used for military storage. Two windows are opened to the north. There is a door on each side. The door is two meters high and 1.2 meters wide. It is very convenient to enter and leave.

significance

Jiuyanlou is not only the largest enemy tower on the Great Wall, but also has very important strategic significance in military defense. It is located at the juncture of Xuanfu (Xuanhua), Jizhou (Beijing) and Changping (Changping). It is the intersection of the inner and outer Great Wall. Such an important position is incomparable to all the enemy towers of the Great Wall. In addition, there are 24 stone inscriptions left in jiuyanlou, most of which are poems praising its majestic posture and expressing the author's heroic mind. As an enemy tower, it is unique to write so many poems. The fact that ancient military strategists and poets were so fond of an enemy tower shows that jiuyanlou has a unique position.

The surrounding mountains rise and fall, and the gullies move freely. In the near, the trees are heavily colored, and the waves are gradually pushing forward; in the distance, the clouds are steaming and the haze is like smoke. In the southeast, among the mountains is Wang Weilan, the yanxihu reservoir; in the southwest, after the smog is Beijing, just as the ancients said, "the divine capital is in front, the palace is in the eye.".

Recently, experts from the Great Wall Association of China came to inspect and fully affirmed the position of jiuyanlou as the first floor of the Great Wall. They went up to the ninth eye tower and said with a deep sigh, "we have never been so shocked when we have passed all the great walls.
