Xixia dinosaur remains belong to Cretaceous fault basin sediments. (Xixia Basin is a sedimentary depression between the Qinling fold belt, North China platform and Yangtze platform. At the end of Mesozoic, affected by Qinling tectonic belt, a series of NW-SE parallel fault depressions developed in this area. According to experts' research, these basins are Cretaceous deposits, so they are called Cretaceous faulted basin deposits.) The eggstone layer of dinosaur egg site is the highest layer in Xiping Danshui basin, and more than 1000 egg fossils have been exposed. At least 16 egg layers have been found in the lower part of it, which are classified into 13 species, 7 genera, 4 families. In particular, the giant long egg unearthed from Xixia, with a diameter of more than 50 cm, is a rare species in the world and a symbol of Xixia egg fossils. According to the requirements of modernization, high standard and high grade, Xixia dinosaur egg fossil museum not only preserves the traditional national architectural style, but also fully embodies the trend of modern architectural art in the new century. The building area of the museum is 4800 square meters. It is invested and built by Henan Institute of architectural planning and design, China Geological Museum exhibition design, Tsinghua arts and crafts Architectural Decoration Engineering Co., Ltd., and Henan Longcheng group. The project started in October 2003 and completed in June 2006. It is mainly composed of exhibition hall, space-time tunnel, bionic dinosaur garden and dynamic 4D cinema. On August 20, 2006, members of the UNESCO World Geopark expert group visited Nanyang Funiu Mountain Geopark.
