The former site of the German Navy Club, also known as the Navy Hotel, is located at 17 Hubei Road, Shinan District, Qingdao City, at the northeast corner of the intersection of Zhongshan Road and Hubei Road (formerly the intersection of feidieli street and yilienu Street). It was designed in 1899, built in May 1901 and completed the following year. It is one of the representative works of early German architecture in Qingdao. The architecture belongs to the German New Renaissance style, which is mainly manifested in the towering towers, the front and inside Gables across the main entrance and the wooden veranda.
The first large auditorium in Qingdao is located in the rear of the building. It is of brick and wood structure, about 14 meters wide and 20 meters deep. The plane is basilica style. The three walls of the auditorium are equipped with cloisters, with glass cover lamps and North window lighting. It can accommodate about 700 seats. It was one of the earliest film screening units in Qingdao, where various plays were regularly staged, such as films from Germany and other European countries.
Qingdao is an excellent historical building and a key cultural relic protection unit in China.
