Marquis courtyard hotel opened in July 1911. The designer of the building was Paul Friedrich Richter, the famous private architect at that time, and the owner was Paul dachessel. At that time, there was an umbrella on a small platform in front of the courtyard. Guests sitting under the umbrella could see the sea through the intersection of Abbey street and William coast. However, at least in the early 1920s, the building had been converted into official housing. In 1922, the Chinese government regained the sovereignty of Qingdao, and the building was changed into the office of the first district of jiaoao police office. During the period of Japanese occupation, it was used as a military police station, but after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, it was still used as a police station. It is now used by Shinan branch of Qingdao public security bureau.

It was built from 1910 to 1911. The architectural style of the building is implicit and steady, highlighting the characteristics of nature and localization.

Architecture

The building is a brick and stone structure with a total of three floors. The bottom floor has a rough mushroom stone foot. Two horizontal decorative lines are designed between the first floor and the second floor as the division. The windows of the third floor are inlaid in the huge red slope tiles, and the roof is covered with ox tongue tiles. Its facade is asymmetric layout, with a terrace on the second floor in the south, and a tower integrated with the South and West facades on the southwest corner. The bottom floor is supported by short and thick stone columns in a bucket shape. The dome gradually shrinks and rises, and finally presents a needle shape. The top part of the tower was reconstructed and demolished, which was restored according to the old photos in the repair work in 2005.
