Huatian township is located 37 kilometers northwest of Youyang Tujia and Miao County, in the middle of the county, adjacent to Taohuayuan town where the county government is located in the East, Shuangquan Township in the west, Tonggu Township in the south, and diheishui town via national highway 319 in the north. It is only 20 kilometers away from Youyang exit of Yuxiang expressway, covering an area of 79 square kilometers. The township has 6 administrative villages, 76 villager groups and 8826 villages People (2017), the township has 25857 mu of arable land. There are abundant forest resources, including more than 1700 mu of natural forest and 60000 mu of barren hills and slopes suitable for forest.

Historical evolution

In 1951, huayanshui and Hedong townships were established as Huatian townships. In 1958, they were transformed into communes. In 1963, they were merged into Huayuan communes. In 1983, they were established as Huatian townships.

In 1997, it covers an area of 25 square kilometers and has a population of 4000. It governs five administrative villages, namely fengquanxi, Shengji, Hejiayan, guolutan and huatianbao.

After the zoning adjustment in 2001, Huatian township has jurisdiction over the administrative areas of Baiju village, Laolong village, maoya village and xiazhichang village in Huatian Township, Huayuan Township and Hongjing Township, covering an area of 84 square kilometers, with a total population of 9761 people, including 480 non-agricultural people. It has jurisdiction over 15 Village committees and the township government is located in malatan.

In 2004, seven groups of Baiju village were put under the jurisdiction of Tonggu township; after the zoning adjustment, Huatian township has jurisdiction over six villages, 11113 people, covering an area of 79 square kilometers.

It has jurisdiction over six administrative villages, namely, Datian, jingzhuyuan, Zhangjia, Chaxiang, Wujiaping and Zhongxin.
