In July 2003, Kunshan library laid the foundation for the construction of the new library, which is a key practical project in Kunshan in 2004. The new library is located in the golden area of the city. It is one of the most advanced public libraries in county-level cities in China. It was completed on January 28, 2005, covering an area of 12000 square meters and a building area of 18600 square meters. It costs more than 100 million yuan and has five floors. It has more than 80 professional and technical personnel at all levels and more than 70% of the staff College degree or above.

In December 2018, it was announced as the national reading demonstration base by China Library Society.

Introduction to Library

The collection is rich and unique, with a collection of more than 2 million books. The most distinctive parts are: Kunshan local literature, ancient books, and manuscripts of modern cultural celebrities; three large series of books, including Sikuquanshu's catalogue series, supplement series, and renewal of Sikuquanshu, with a total of more than 4600 volumes; the world's largest famous picture album has also been settled in Kunshan library, with a weight of 32 kg and a price of 50000 yuan, imported from Italy and only five from China.

Library design

Kunshan library is designed by Harold, a famous Australian designer. Its design style is original and unique. The outer wall is constructed with large glass curtain wall, the interior is spacious and bright, and the environment is elegant. It is equipped with central air conditioning, elevator, library automation integrated management system, computer public network system, 800 information points, wireless internet access, fire and anti-theft system, electronic reading guide, background music facilities, etc. The library has a general service desk (Certificate Office), children's Department, newspaper reading room, multi-function hall; comprehensive borrowing room, academic report room; electronic reading room, self-study room; reference reading room, four libraries, ancient books, local literature room; training center.

Kunshan library has first-class architecture, first-class facilities, first-class environment, rich resources, good service and complete functions. It is not only the intelligence, information collection and service center of the city, but also an important place for social education, cultural leisure, reader gathering and artistic exchange.
