Xu family ancestral hall
Ancestral hall is a place where Chinese ancestors or sages are sacrificed. Xujia ancestral hall is located in the west of Dongcun street, Jinting Town, Wuzhong District, Suzhou city. It was built in 1748, the 13th year of Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty. The original gate house, sedan hall, main hall and back building have four entrances. There are two gatehouses and three patios between them, covering an area of 1252.6 square meters. Ancestral ceremony represents the excellent cultural form of Chinese ancestral belief, which has great influence and historical value. In July 2009, Xujia ancestral hall was announced as a cultural relic protection unit of Suzhou by the municipal government. In December 2011, Xujia ancestral hall was listed as the seventh batch of cultural relic protection units of Jiangsu Province by the provincial government.

The top of the front hall is full of exquisite wood carvings and color paintings, including figures, drama, flowers, animals, festive and auspicious patterns. The carving techniques include through carving, high relief carving, flat carving and so on. On the porch beam and the front porch purlin, the painting is full of Shili powder and gold thread Jujin Su style color paintings, with bright colors and simple and beautiful patterns. In 2008, the government of Jinting town carried out protective maintenance for Xujia ancestral hall. Its exquisite carving skills and immortal artistic value fully reflect the outstanding talent and artistic creativity of the ancient Chinese working people.
Cultural relic value
The whole building of Xujia ancestral hall is ornate and exquisite. Its beams, Fang, Dou, Ti mu, Bi mu, base plate and other wood components are fully engraved. Its contents include characters, drama, flowers, animals, festive and auspicious patterns. The carving techniques include through carving, high relief carving, flat carving and so on. Xuanliang and front porch purlin are all covered with gilt powder and gold lines, with different colors of gold, red, white and blue. The colors are bright and bright, and the patterns are simple and elegant. It is one of the most preserved residential buildings in the Qing Dynasty in Jiangnan area. It has high cultural relic research value and is now a provincial cultural heritage protection unit.
