Diverting garden is a novel about the writer who returned to his hometown Chengdu during the war and lived in his friend's new mansion. There, he found that the host and his wife had internal worries. The newly married hostess was troubled by the ex-wife's only son, Xiao Hu. The ex-wife's mother's family was very rich. They intentionally or unintentionally used Xiao Hu to torture Xuxian's stepmother. Later, he found out the tragedy of the old owner of the diverticulum. Diverting garden was written in May 1944, but it began to brew in early 1941. At that time, Ba Jin went back to his hometown in Sichuan, heard the long lost local accent, saw the familiar customs, especially witnessed the decline of his former residence, "caught by a strange feeling", and seemed to find "the lost remote dream". Personage introduction

Appreciation of works

The plot of the novel (the love between the blind zither player and the singing girl), the inner worries of the master of the garden, the tragedy of the old master, and the writer's concern for the hostess are interwoven and developed, and each of them has got a moving conclusion. There are only 120000 words in the whole book, and the processing is perfect. Li Guangtian, a literary critic, said after reading the diverting Garden: "Ba Jin's diverting garden is a good book. Among all Ba Jin's works I have read, I think it is the best one."

In fact, it is not only the best of Ba Jin's works, but also a model of modern Chinese novels. Sima Changfeng, a Hong Kong scholar of literature and history, once commented on "diverting garden": "on being cautious, you can compete with Lu Xun; on being beautiful, you can compete with Shen Congwen; on being vivid, you can't let Lao She; on being affectionate, you can't be inferior to Yu Dafu. About the author

Ba Jin (1904-2005), a modern writer and translator. His original name was Li Yaotang and his name was Fu Gan. His pen name is Bajin. During his stay in France from 1927 to 1928, he met with some anarchists and wrote his first novel death in Paris. At the end of 1928, he returned to China and engaged in literary creation and work. Before the Anti Japanese War, the main works are love Trilogy (fog, rain, electricity), home and short story collection revenge, light, etc. During the Anti Japanese War, Ba Jin's main works were fire, resting garden, cold night and the fourth ward. After liberation, Ba Jin successively served as vice chairman of the Chinese writers' Association, chairman of the Shanghai Writers' Association, and chairman of the Chinese writers' Association. Capriccio and exploration and recollection published in the new period are of great ideological and artistic value, which is one of the most important achievements of literature in the new period. Bajin won the Dante prize in 1982 and the medal of honor in 1983.
