Menghuo City

Menghuo City, also known as Shimian Menghuo city scenic spot, is built by Sichuan nengtou. It is located in Menghuo new village, Liziping Township, Shimian County, Ya'an City, Sichuan Province. The junction of Ya'an area and Liangshan Prefecture is the South Gate of Ya'an City. The scenic spot is adjacent to Liziping National Nature Reserve, so rare animals and plants can be common. The scenic area covers an area of about 17.7 square kilometers, with an average altitude of about 2600 meters. The annual average temperature is 17 degrees. Menghuo city has a high mountain ecological meadow, which is the place where giant pandas are released. During the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang captured Menghuo for the seventh time

On April 13, 2018, Yingxue, a giant panda released from the wild, was found in the scenic spot.

Main attractions

1. Big meadow

Menghuocheng meadow is a plateau ecological meadow and the world's first ex situ release place for wild giant pandas. The annual average temperature is 17 ° and it covers an area of about 6.75 square kilometers.

Plateau meadow, also known as alpine meadow, is mainly distributed in the northeast of Qinghai Tibet Plateau, the north, northwest and southwest of Sichuan. Alpine meadow is a good summer pasture with low grass layer and good grass quality, which is suitable for cattle, sheep and other livestock grazing. The vegetation is mainly composed of cold middle perennial herbs, often accompanied by middle perennial miscellaneous grasses.

In the middle of the meadow, there is a thousand year old dead tree. It is said that it is the sacred tree that helps Menghuo and protects the villagers of Menghuo city.

In 225 A.D., Meng Huo, the general of the southern barbarians, led his troops to set up camp here, preparing for the final decisive battle with Zhuge Liang. However, Meng Huo's troops retreated steadily. Zhuge Liang captured Meng Huo for the seventh time here. Afterwards, Meng Huo had no reason to rebel any more, and nanzhong area was pacified.

2. Hongshitan

Hongshitan is famous for its peculiar and bright red stones.

Why are the stones in hongshitan red?

It is said that before Zhuge Liang captured Meng Huo for the seventh time, spies came to report. Meng Huo invited Tengjia army of Wuge state to fight against Kongming. Meng Huo had the help of God and got a divine tree, which could be moved to heaven to help him defend the city. Zhuge Liang then bribed Meng Huo's subordinates to steal the tree. Without God's help, Meng Huo retreated. The blood of the soldiers dyed the stones all over the mountain. Meng Huo wept and his tears became the river in front of him.

According to the field investigation of scientists, it is preliminarily determined that the red color comes from the orange alga jolly attached to the rock. Because it is rich in carotenoids, it is bright red in the sunlight, and its cells are rich in astaxanthin, which can resist the strong ultraviolet radiation in high altitude areas and the low temperature and drought in alpine areas. The primary rock is the necessary substrate for its growth, and the humid and foggy environment is its main source The necessary conditions for scale growth and unique geographical conditions created this unique red stone beach.

3. Beacon tower

Beacon tower was an important pass built by Meng Huo and his subordinates in the Three Kingdoms period to resist the Shu army.

The first way for the Shu army to attack Menghuo city was through this pass. Meng Huo organized his troops to build walls with stones to keep the city safe. Every move outside the city is connected with the inside of the city by the soldiers on standby on the beacon tower, which helps the troops in the city to prepare for defense in advance. It is said that when the beacon tower was lit, the soldiers in the city put down their work and got up to fight against the foreign enemy.

This is the mystery of Menghuo city. There is only one gate and two beacon towers. Where is Menghuo's "city"? There is no final conclusion on this issue. There is an old saying in the local area, "open Menghuo City, there is no poor man in the world.". It is said that there are precious treasures buried under the ground of Menghuo city. Whoever can get them will have great wealth. No expedition has yet discovered the mystery.

4. Moon Lake

Moon Lake is named "Moon Lake" because of its crescent shape. It is said that it is the place where Meng Huo and Mrs. Zhu Rong fell in love. Moon Lake is a plateau lake with an altitude of about 2400m and a water area of about 20000m2. The water temperature in summer is about 17 ℃. From April to may, primrose flowers are blooming around the lake, and the sea of flowers is boundless. In golden autumn, red leaves are like fire and colorful, and it is a bend of emerald inlaid in mountain time. In winter, snow is covered, and the thick snow is soft and light, which has a different kind of beauty. (the scenic spot is not open for the time being)
