Dabie Mountain Geological Museum

The Geological Museum of Dabie Mountain, like a pearl, is inlaid in Tiantangzhai scenic spot, the main park of Dabie Mountain National Geopark with green mountains and clear water. The construction of the museum started in December 2006. On May 14, 2007, the construction, decoration and exhibition of the museum were completed and officially opened. The building area is 3000 square meters, and the main exhibition area is 1000 square meters.

Development history

Shanyuan, central China. At the junction of Hubei, Henan and Anhui provinces, it goes to the northwest southeast. Baimajian, the main peak of Dabie Mountain, is 1777 meters above sea level. Baimajian is 90 kilometers away from Huoshan County. It is located at the junction of Taiyang, Mozitan and Dahuaping. Baimajian mountain was formed in the late Yanshanian movement and is a granite mountain. The Tongbai mountain extends to the west of Dabie, and the Zhangbaling mountain to the East. The three are collectively called Huaiyin mountain, which is the watershed of Yangtze River and Huaihe River. Tongbai mountain is generally 500 meters high, and taibaiding, the main peak, is 1140 meters above sea level. It is the birthplace of Huaihe River. The altitude of Dabie Mountain is about 1000 meters. Gaofeng Tiantang Village (1729 meters) is in the northeast of Luotian County, Hubei Province, and Baimajian (1774 meters) is in the south of Huoshan County, Anhui Province. The mountain area is divided into many rhombic fault blocks by faults. From Huangmei to Tongcheng in the southeast, the Piedmont line is straight, and the slope is steep to more than 50 degrees, which is an obvious fault cliff. Many reservoirs have been built on the north and south sides of the mountain, including Meishan reservoir, Foziling reservoir and Bailianhe reservoir. The original forest is luxuriant, but it has been damaged for a long time, the coverage rate is low, the soil erosion is serious, and the life of the reservoir is also affected. The existing forests are mainly Pinus massoniana, Cunninghamia lanceolata and Quercus. Dabie Mountain area is the main tea producing area in China. It is famous for "Lu'an Guapian" and "Huoshan Huangya" in West Anhui, "Xinyang Maojian" in South Henan, and "Hanlu" in Northeast Hubei. Luotian and Jinzhai have sericulture. Castanea mollissima, tung oil tree, Camellia oleifera, Sapium sebiferum, lacquer tree and other economic forests are widely distributed in low mountains and hills.

The museum also sets up the largest geological and geomorphic sand table model in China, showing the mountains, rivers, dangerous peaks and valleys, towns and highways within 450 square kilometers of the Dabie Mountain (Lu'an) National Geopark in an area of nearly 40 square kilometers.
