Tuyugou thousand Buddha cave
Located about 55 kilometers southeast of Turpan, Xinjiang, it belongs to tuyugou Township, Shanshan county. The original 94 caves were all excavated on the high mountain cliffs on both sides of tuyugou gully. Now most of the caves have collapsed, and only 8 caves still have some murals. Many sutras of the third, fifth and sixth centuries have been found here.
Development history
Cave No. 4 in the southeast of tuyugou is one of the early Grottoes in Turpan. The font of the title in Chinese on the murals in the cave is similar to that of the Scriptures written at the end of the fifth century and the beginning of the sixth century, which indicates that the early Grottoes here were excavated at this time. This kind of early Grottoes has the shape of a square cave with a dome of tianzhongtan, and also has a rectangular top with a central pillar at the back. The statues in the cave have been destroyed for a long time, and there are still mural themes such as Bensheng story and Thousand Buddhas.
