Gaoji Temple

Gaoji temple is located in Yaoli Town, Fuliang County, Jiangxi Province, on the hillside of wugujian mountain area in Anhui and Jiangxi Province. It has a construction area of more than 9000 square meters in its heyday and an existing construction area of more than 1200 square meters. It is a famous temple in Northeast Jiangxi province built in the Song Dynasty.

Gaoji temple was built in the first year of Tang He (1118 AD) in Song Dynasty, with a history of nearly 900 years.

It is said that during the Song Dynasty, Yu maoheng and Yu Maoxue, two brothers from the county, were instructed by an eminent monk to come to this spirited Gaoji mountain. They studied hard and practiced hard for six years. Later, they went to Beijing to apply for the exam and became the top civil and military scholars in Shuangshuang high school. After returning home, Yu brothers built Gaoji temple in this beautiful and pleasant Gaoji mountain. In addition, in the surrounding widely buy forest land, planting pine, tea forest.

The rise and fall of temples

The main hall of Gaoji Chan Lin Temple is majestic and solemn in appearance, with two pairs of giant flagpole piers set at the corner of the gate tower, three gates set at the cross of the wooden grating, and three rows of stone steps under the corridor opposite the gate. Stepping into the front hall, I saw the rough stone pillars supporting the arched roof of the Buddhist hall. Walking through the hall on both sides and entering the back hall, you can see a three room building on both sides. There are stone steps on both sides. You need to look up from the bottom of the steps to see the hall on the stage. There are 18 statues of Arhats on both sides. The whole hall looks mysterious and dignified. In front of the main hall is a gate tower and two half moon shaped release pools. Behind the main hall is a Guanyin temple There are nearly ten halls, such as dining room, sutra house, Zen house and squatter house. The layout of Gaoji temple is reasonable and well arranged, which fully reflects the profound Buddhist culture.

In the early period, temples were full of incense, and in the Chongzhen period of Ming Dynasty, incense was the most prosperous. Jingxu, a famous Zen master in the Ming Dynasty, once wrote: "the white clouds go deep into the monk's house, missing the morning bell and leaning on the pillow at the beginning. Experience forest spring sound faint, line back to the rock gully rhyme slowly. Dispel the illusion of Qingping day, appreciate the spring and see the emptiness. Listen to xiaotianji again, and urge people to read Wugeng books. " It confirms the scene at that time.

Gaoji temple was destroyed in the period of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. Gaoji mountain once built seven temples, including Gongmiao, Baxian temple, Songzi Guanyin temple and Longwang temple. Now, only the ruins of these temples and a large number of cliff inscriptions, Buddha pillars, the tombs of the pharaohs, pagodas and other Buddhist sites are left.
