Haiyuan Mosque

Haiyuan Muslim temple is the oldest Islamic temple in Haiyuan County, Xihaigu Prefecture, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is located in the northwest of Haiyuan County, namely, the big Temple Lane. It was built in Wanli year of Shenzong in Ming Dynasty and has a history of more than 400 years. It is the central place of Muslim religious activities in Haiyuan county and the "maiszhi place" of "haye". The simple and solemn temples are magnificent. The rich collection of books, the vast hall, and the towering ancient elms all make the visitors and believers marvel.

Construction scale

Haiyuan mosque has been rebuilt and expanded for many times, covering an area of 4100 square meters, with a construction area of 1025 square meters, and a sutra hall and a main hall of 460 square meters.

Architectural features

The style adopts the combination of Chinese palace style and Arabic architectural art, with five Scripture halls and seven main halls of brick and wood structure. The main building of the hall has two ridges and a roll of 300 square meters, which can accommodate more than 600 people. The roll shed is 110 square meters. The hall has three floors, five in the lower layer, three in the middle layer, and one in the upper layer, with a total of 240 square meters and a height of 11.7 meters.

The moon watching platform, the Sutra hall and the main hall are all paved with 3 cm thick pine board. The second Taoist courtyard has three main rooms (five purlins), six East and West Wing rooms, five corridor study rooms, three bathing rooms, five safekeeping rooms and one toilet, with a total area of 24 rooms and 360 square meters, with a total building area of about 1470 square meters. The cantilevered corners on all sides of the Sutra hall and the main hall, the front eaves of the rolling shed and all the doors and windows are composed of carefully carved patterns. The eaves of the doors and windows are decorated with gold lettered "Koran" scripture relief, which is particularly solemn. The tall arched door openings are made of bricks, on which there is a three-story wooden Xuanli building, up to 8 meters high. The whole building is grand, solemn and spectacular. Around the temple, there are 14 towering elms of the same age as the temple, with a circumference of about 4 meters, adding to the grandeur of the temple.
