Yunkong Temple

Yunkong temple is located in Huaxian County, Shaanxi Province. It is said that it was built in the Eastern Han Dynasty and was formerly known as Yunji temple. There are the Buddhist pagoda of yunkong in the Northern Song Dynasty and the pagoda of Puqian mage in the Qing Dynasty.

history

In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, yunkong temple was a large-scale Buddhist temple with a depth of more than 1000 meters from east to west, covering an area of 20 square kilometers. The Buddhist hall was full of smoke and bustle, and it declined in the late Qing Dynasty. At present, there are only three main halls in the temple, which are for Sakyamuni, Manjusri and Puxian Bodhisattvas. There are 6 porches in the front right side of the main hall, which are used for monks' accommodation. At the south end of the temple, there is a song Pagoda in the style of wooden pavilion, and to the south there is the pagoda of Puqian Zen master.

According to legend, Puqian Zen master Changming was the fourth Prince of Chongzhen emperor. After the Qing Dynasty was destroyed, his family suffered a lot. Only he was lucky to survive. So he went to Buddhism and traveled around here to cultivate himself. Because of his vow of "not to be a Qing minister in life and not to touch the earth in death", his disciples chose Fengshui cemetery according to master's will and hung his coffin with iron rope in the carefully constructed tomb, and there was no earth around. Finally, they left the door of the tomb closed and sealed, so as to bury him. For the sake of the spirit of the master, the sincere disciples returned to the West early to become Buddhas, so they chanted sutras at the tomb on time every day. In this way, over time, the tomb gate has become an important entrance for future generations of devout believers or tourists. It's no wonder that people in Huaxian county have a long-standing saying that "yunkong temple looks at the hanging coffin" passed down to the world.

Travel

The reason why yunkong temple is famous for a long time lies in its hanging coffin. For hundreds of years, "Daming Temple", "Daming village", "Daming township" and so on are always named after "Daming". At the turn of spring and summer, thousands of believers and tourists come to visit every day. The grand meeting can last for five to seven days.
