Bayin River

Bayin River, Mongolian, means "happy river". Bayin river runs through the city of Delingha. It is the largest river in the territory and is known as the "Mother River" of Delingha. It originates from the south slope of halbai mountain in Qilian Mountains, flows through zelinggou, Gahai, Gobi and other places, and finally flows into kruke lake, with a total distance of more than 200 kilometers. She selflessly nurtures the people of all ethnic groups who have lived here for generations. It is her existence that makes this Gobi City energetic. Standing on the cypress hill overlooking the city, the city is in the forest, the water is in the forest, the Bayin river is like a river in the forest, and people are like spirits between the forest and the water.

Origin area

Bayin river is located in the northeast of Qaidam Basin in Qinghai Province. It is the fourth largest inland river in Qaidam Basin. It originates from Qixun Li'an mujile (yeniuji mountain), a branch of Qilian Mountain, and its source is about 5000m above sea level.

River Basin Area

The source river passes through Zongwulong mountain and enters into the valley of zelinggou. The upstream section passes from east to west through chujixia and zelinggou to Heishishan reservoir (built). The middle section passes through the urban area of Delingha city from north to south. The downstream section flows from east to East through Golimu and Gobi Township and finally flows into the area of Keluke Lake Tosuo lake about 50km southwest of Delingha city. The total length of Bayin River from the source to Tosuo lake is 326km Including the two tributaries Baishui River and balageng River, the total drainage area is 10800 square kilometers; the river above the dam site of Heishishan reservoir has a total length of 229 km, a drainage area of 7354 square kilometers, a river drop of 1761 m, a theoretical hydropower reserve of 79800 kW, an average annual flow of 10.2 m3 / s, and an annual runoff of 320 million m3. In the upper reaches of Bayin River, the mountains above the mouth of Juji gorge are steep, the vertical cliff height difference between the two banks is about 50-60m, the valley is deep, U-shaped, the flow is turbulent, and the average gradient of the channel is 13 ‰.

Flowing through the city

Delingha City, which flows through the middle reaches of Bayin River, is the capital of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province. The city has a total area of 32400 square kilometers, of which the urban area is about 25 square kilometers and the population is more than 60000. Surface water resources of Delingha city mainly come from Bayin river. The Heishishan reservoir, which has been built in the upper reaches of the urban area, is a medium-sized water conservancy project mainly for irrigation and flood control, with comprehensive benefits of power generation, tourism and aquaculture. The total storage capacity is 36.64 million cubic meters, the controlled irrigation area is about 170000 mu, and the installed capacity of the reservoir power station is 3 × 1000kW.
