Riverside Folk Museum

The riverside folk custom museum was founded in the 1980s, relying on Yan Xishan's former residence. Its exhibits are mainly folk cultural relics. According to the six series layout of agriculture, food, housing, transportation, entertainment and letter, there are 58 exhibition rooms including Folk Dough sculpture, embroidery, sculpture, diet, belief, wedding custom and Lantern Festival folk street, with a total area of 1980 square meters, They are relatively independent and cross related, which vividly reflects the unique folk culture and colorful folk art of northern Shanxi in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.

Through the corridor in the middle of the East Hall of the first courtyard is the second courtyard of the east garden. This courtyard is smaller than the first courtyard, but its architecture is more luxurious and elegant. The lifelike stone carving, openwork carving, wood carving, as well as bright pillars, drum piers, cornices and Dougong are all in the typical palace style of the late Qing Dynasty. Behind the main hall of the third courtyard in the east garden, there is a secluded side courtyard, where Yan Xishan often lives and works. In the 1930s, Chiang Kai Shek came here to visit old master Yan.

In the southeast of Sanyuan, there stands a three story building. The bottom floor is a very spacious three eye cave. And there's a stone stairway up the stairs. The upper two floors are made of green bricks, and the top of the building is paved with square bricks, which can be used for visitors to climb up and look at.

Opposite the east garden is the west garden. Compared with the east garden, the west garden is much smaller and more damaged. The so-called Er Lao Tai Ye's residence is the residence of Yan Shudian, Yan Xishan's second uncle. It's also a large quadrangle with bright pillars. The carvings and paintings are very exquisite. To the south of the east garden, close to ER Lao Tai Yeh's mansion, there is an exquisite tile roofed building connecting the front and back courtyards, which is the famous Dudu mansion. In the northeast corner of the backyard of the governor's mansion, there is a small courtyard, in which stands the second high-rise building of Yan's mansion, the first floor. The front of the building can pass through the dududufu, and the back of the building is connected with the second courtyard of East Garden by tunnel. On the exit of the tunnel, bats are flying, auspicious clouds are blooming, surrounded by the three characters "can work", all of which are stone carvings. In addition, there is a courtyard just south of Er Lao Tai Ye's residence. It's the general's mansion. It's a quadrangle compound. Just north of the east garden is the famous zimingci children's home.

Development history

Located in riverside town of Dingxiang County, it is now a riverside folk custom museum. The national AAAA scenic spot is a national second-class Museum. The former residence of Yan Xishan is the site of the museum. Yan Xishan is a native of riverside village in Wutai County, Shanxi Province (riverside village now belongs to Dingxiang County). He has been in power for nearly 40 years and served as the president of the national government. Yan Xishan's former residence was built around 1913. It was not until the eve of the outbreak of the Anti Japanese war in 1937 that such a scale was built. During this period, 27 courtyards and nearly 1000 houses were built, including dudufu, deyilou, jiangjunfu, erlaotaiye, chuanxinyuan, xinnanyuan and zimingci kindergarten. There are more than 700 existing rooms, covering a total area of more than 33000 square meters. When you enter Yan Xishan's old house and enter the gate, you will find the first courtyard of East Garden. This is the largest courtyard of Yan Curie. There are halls on all sides, flower beds, rockeries and fountain in the middle, and carvings with decorative patterns made of stones, pebbles and green bricks.
