After Xinhua daily business department moved from Wuhan to Chongqing in October 1938, its whole organization was initially concentrated in the main city. After the May 3rd and May 4th bombing in 1939, with the help of the underground party, the newspaper office, editing and printing departments all moved to Hualongqiao in the suburbs. However, because of its special work, the business department of Xinhua Daily was separated and moved to 208 Minsheng Road (now 240 Minsheng Road). Since then, it has not only become an important place for Xinhua daily to handle subscription and distribution business and sell revolutionary and progressive books, but also an important contact point and position for the Southern Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to contact and deploy with underground Party comrades and progressive youth, and to carry out united front work.
