Xiaohaizi reservoir

Xiaohaizi reservoir (Xiaohaizi resevoir) in Xiaohaizi village, Nanhua Town, Gaotai County, Gansu Province, is a medium-sized low-lying plain reservoir, which diverts water from Heihe River for storage.

Founded in 1958, it was listed as the western special fund dangerous reservoir treatment project in 2001, and the reinforcement project was completed in October 2004.

The Xiaohaizi reservoir in Tumushuke city of Xinjiang production and Construction Corps is the largest plain reservoir in Northwest China, with a capacity of 700 million cubic meters and a usable water surface of 155 square kilometers. The reservoir is close to the mountain, with open water surface, primitive Populus euphratica forest beside the reservoir, rolling desert and rich aquatic products.

Unexpected accident

At 12:10 on the 19th, the lower reservoir of Xiaohaizi reservoir burst suddenly. At that time, the lower reservoir stored about 2.8 million cubic meters of water, the length of the dam was about 30 meters, and the maximum flow was about 90 cubic meters per second.

Economic industry

Located on the East Bank of Xiaohaizi reservoir, Xihai Bay is a natural freshwater bathing place. Between the two mountains, the largest plantation covering more than 6000 mu has been built in Xinjiang.

Tumushuke city has 1.1 million mu of arable land and 750000 mu of land resources to be used. There are abundant 1.2 million mu of original Populus euphratica forest, Tamarix, Populus alba, natural grassland, wild licorice, Apocynum venetum, Sophora alopecuroides, wild watermelon, etc.

The leading industry is agriculture, which is a high-quality commodity cotton base approved by the state. With abundant water resources, abundant light and heat resources, long sunshine time and frost free period from 212 to 225 days, it is suitable for the growth of long staple cotton. It has high yield per unit area and good quality. It is the necessary raw material for worsted high count yarn. It is the only long staple cotton planting area in China.
