Shen Junru Memorial

Shen Junru's ancestral home is No.3, nanbang'an, Jiaxing City (Huancheng South Road, Jiaxing City). It was built during the reign of Jiaqing and Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty to commemorate Shen Junru, a great patriot and outstanding democratic fighter. It was rebuilt from Shen Junru's former residence.

brief introduction

Toumen was destroyed in the early days of the Anti Japanese War, and Yimen was in a state of disrepair in the 1970s. The relatively complete preservation is the front hall, back building and east-west wing room. In 1998, it was rebuilt as it was, and the ancestral home was turned into "Shen Junru Memorial Hall" with a plaque inscribed by Jiang Zemin. Now the memorial covers an area of 2100 square meters, with a construction area of 12000 square meters. In the front hall of the memorial hall, a bronze statue of Shen Junru was placed and inscribed with Party and state leaders. There are more than 400 photos and more than 100 objects (daily necessities, etc.) on display in the back building. With a large number of realistic and vivid historical materials, the historical traces of Mr. Shen Junru's life are vividly displayed in seven parts from different aspects, reflecting the glorious course of his whole life of unremitting pursuit of truth and unswerving struggle for the independence, democracy, peace and freedom of the motherland.

Shen Junru (1875-1963), born in Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province, was a Jinshi of Guangxu Jiachen (1904). He studied in Japan the next year. After returning home, he took part in the revolution of 1911 and the struggle against the Northern Warlords. In 1935, he and Song Qingling initiated and organized the national salvation Federation of all walks of life, actively carried out the Anti Japanese and national salvation movement, offended the authorities and was jailed, as one of the famous "seven gentlemen". After that, he made a great contribution to opposing the civil war, seeking peace, establishing and expanding the patriotic united front, and was one of the founders of the China Democratic Alliance. Since the founding of new China, he has successively served as president of the Supreme People's court, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and chairman of the Central Committee of the Democratic League. He is known as "the banner of the Democratic left" and "a glorious example of patriotic intellectuals".

Restoring history

In the process of restoring Shen Junru's former residence and preparing for the construction of Shen Junru's memorial hall, the party and state leaders, including Qiao Shi, Liu Huaqing, Zou Jiahua, Jiang Zhenghua, Wang Zhaoguo, Zhao Puchu, Qian Weichang, Ren Jianxin, Zhang Jinfu, Zhang Aiping, Duan Junyi, Lei Jieqiong, etc., have given strong support to this work More than 300 calligraphers and painters from all over the country wrote inscriptions for the memorial hall and sent excellent works. Mr. Shen Junru's relatives selflessly donated a large number of precious objects and historical materials to the memorial hall, which greatly enriched the collection of the memorial hall and provided extremely favorable conditions for the smooth development of the work of the memorial hall. In 1998, the first collection was appraised by the collection grade appraisal team of the Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics: 3 first-class collections, 15 second-class collections, 44 third-class collections, and many other collections to be appraised.

Since its opening, Shen Junru memorial hall has been serving the education based on its own special functions and facing the audience, especially the young students. It has played a good role in social education while expanding publicity. On July 10, 2000, Jiaxing Municipal Party committee and government officially announced that Shen Junru memorial hall is the patriotic education base of Jiaxing City.
