Bapanxia tourist resort is located in the western end of the upper reaches of the Yellow River in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. There are majestic power station dam, beautiful factory area and wide reservoir area. Historical legend

It is said that during the Xia Dynasty, King Yu left home to control the water by sitting in a tree row. From west to East, he dredged the waterway all the way to Jincheng. In front of us, the flow of the Yellow River is blocked by a towering Stone Mountain, where the sand is deposited, and Jincheng is in danger of being submerged at any time. King Yu, who was dedicated to working for the people, was very upset when he saw this. He was determined to let the Yellow River continue to flow eastward so that the people on both sides would not suffer.

Regardless of the tiredness of the journey, Lord Yu did not drink a mouthful of water, so he climbed up the cloud shrouded Stone Mountain and looked around. In the distance, he saw the boundless plain, and in the near, the roaring river, hitting the rocks. Lord Yu thought: why don't you cut the big stone mountain in half and cut a passage from the side to let the Yellow River flow down here? In this way, the water from the Yellow River can irrigate farmland without harming the people near Jincheng. Isn't it killing two birds with one stone! Thinking of this, Lord Yu was so happy that he patted the stone mountain with his palm. I don't know if it was because he was too happy or because he was born with great strength, he patted a stone mountain.

Lord Yu quickly went back and told the people what he thought. After hearing this, the people were very happy. They immediately picked up the tools to chisel the mountain and followed Lord Yu here. But the stone is hard and the progress is slow. Lord Yu thought, when will it be finished? In a hurry, he stretched out his hand, gritted his teeth, and cut to the stone mountain. With a loud noise, the top of the mountain was cut off. Then, Lord Yu cut off half of the stone mountain with his hand. Then he led everyone to dig a channel beside the stone mountain to let the Yellow River flow according to the plan. But where are the stones cut by Lord Yu? If put together, the Yellow River water is still in danger of being blocked. Lord Yu thought about it and said, "divide it into eight beaches and pile it up beside the stone mountain." In this way, eight hills were added beside the flattened mountains, and the water of the Yellow River flowed between them. Since then, it has been called "Bapanxia".

After this section of the Yellow River was cured, Lord Yu said goodbye to everyone and was about to leave by the tree row. However, the voice of the people made him turn back again. Suddenly, he saw the stone mountain, which he flattened, standing bare between the eight Gorges, very eye-catching. Lord Yu said in his heart: it's not very good to plant crops on it! So he went back to the tree row and stood on the flattened stone mountain. He stamped his feet hard, but he saw the broken stones and dust flying and falling, all attached to the stone layer. From then on, there were crops in Bapanxia.

Zhao Chongguo crosses Bapanxia

In the first year of shenjue (61bc), Emperor Xuandi of Han Dynasty, Zhao Chongguo was ordered to attack xianlingqiang in Huangshui River Basin. After he led his troops across the Yellow River from Jincheng (now Xigu area), he first sent people to siwangxia to spy on the enemy. When he learned that the Qiang people had no defenses, he was overjoyed and said to his subordinates, "I knew that the Qiang people would not use troops. If the Qiang people used thousands of people to guard siwangxia, could our army still pass through here?" So he led his troops to Ledu at night. According to Li Wenshi, a historian in Qinghai Province, Siwang gorge is now Bapan gorge, which is named after Siwang River: Zhuanglang River in the North flows into the Yellow River, the Yellow River in the East flows out of the gorge to Xincheng River, the Yellow River in the southwest flows into the gorge from Yongjing, and the Yellow River in the northwest flows into the Yellow River.

Finally it got its name

In Ming and Qing Dynasties, the name of Bapan gorge replaced Siwang gorge. Bapan gorge is named after Bapan mountain. This mountain is known as the Bapan mountain because of the twists and turns of its climbing path. Bapanshan is located on the North Bank of the Yellow River. The cliff is 20-30 feet high, but the top is a flat Loess Plateau. Bapan mountain stands opposite qingshixia on the south bank, both of which are stone mountains. After liberation, the hydropower station was built by taking advantage of this superior geographical environment. This hydropower station, together with Yanguoxia and Liujiaxia hydropower stations on its upstream, makes the Yellow River in this area get cascade development, which not only provides a lot of power, but also regulates the water volume. The Lanzhou Qingdao railway built after liberation passed through Bapanxia, thus connecting the Lanzhou Xinjiang line, Longhai line and lanliu (Jiaxia) line, which really gave the meaning of extending in all directions to siwangxia in the Han Dynasty.
