Nanyue Temple

Nanyue temple is located in Nanyue Mountain, seven kilometers southwest of Yixing, Jiangsu Province. Nanyue temple was built in 484, the second year of Yongming in Qi Dynasty. It was called Nanyue temple at that time. It is an ancient temple in the south of the Yangtze River.

Nanyue temple, known as "Nanyue scenery", is an integral part of "Tongfeng reddening" and "Yangxian tea spring". Nanyue temple has many places of interest in recent weeks. The site of baihechang, where Yuefei and Jinbing fought for more than 100 years in the Song Dynasty, is located at the foot of the temple. The tomb of Diqing, a famous general of the Song Dynasty, is still in Huabiao. It is now a cultural relic protection unit of Yixing City. There are the footprints and poems of Lu Xisheng, the Prime Minister of Tang Dynasty, and the "Liuhuan bridge" and "Shehu pier" of Zhou Shehu in Jin Dynasty.

The ancient Nanyue temple was destroyed by the war of resistance against Japan. After the reform and opening up, with the approval of the people's Government of Yixing City, it was renovated and opened to the outside world in September 1988, becoming a place for Chinese and foreign tourists and Buddhist believers to visit.

Abbot

The current abbot is monk Hongren. The word is clear and the name is Hongren. Born in 1930, it is a horse. The common name is Xu Bochu. He was born in Xujia village of Zhoutie, Yixing. At present, he is the vice president of Jiangsu Buddhist Association and the abbot of Nanyue Buddhist temple in Yixing.

In the midsummer of 1983, the sanitary conditions in Xujia village were very poor, and the epidemic of "beating and playing" was prevalent. The doctor diagnosed it as "sadism", but the drug failed to reflect it, and even killed people. Unfortunately, monk Xu was also infected. He was weak for a long time, his eyes were dim and his mind was confused. The doctor sighed that it was useless for Hua Tuo to be alive. He asked his family to prepare for the future.

Monk Xu went home and lay on the bed, panting weakly, his lips faltering and speechless. He hobbled along the misty yellow spring road, no one helped him. He could see nothing in the dark sky and on the rugged road. It was as if there was a sound coming from outside... He walked 72 hours on huangquan road and miraculously came back to life!

Buddha said: today is gone, the past is a mystery. On the first day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar in 1985, monk Xu, who had recovered, went to Fangqiao Chaoyin temple to see Master Chang Hui and asked him to accompany him to Nanyue temple to become a monk. In Nanyue temple, a monk Cheng saw that he had deep Buddhist roots and was devout. He personally wrote a certificate and agreed to accept him as a disciple.

At that time, a dilapidated Dabei Pavilion and several dilapidated bungalows were built in Nanyue temple. During the cultural revolution, religion was a superstitious activity, the government had no funds, monks were few, and incense was weak. As you can imagine, a lamp and a scripture accompanied him for three years. In 1988, a great monk Cheng asked the abbot of Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang, the great monk Cizhou, to shave his hair. He changed his name to Jingming and his name to Hongren. He learned from the old monk you Cheng.

In the spring of 1990, master Hongren went to Longhua Temple in Shanghai to ask for a full set of precepts. Ming min DA and Shang Yu, who have received the precepts for him, said with a long focus: "when you go back to work for the Bodhisattva, you will become a living Bodhisattva; if you don't do good for the Bodhisattva, you will go to the eighteen levels of hell." The poor life of Nanyue Temple enriches master Hongren. The words of the eminent monk make master Hongren unforgettable. He is determined to accumulate virtue and do good deeds for all living beings. He hopes to revive Nanyue temple one day.
