Yangdongshan dodushui nature reserve, located in the northeast of Lechang City, Guangdong Province, was established in 1998 with a total area of 11651 hectares. The main protection objects are the subtropical forest ecosystem and its biodiversity and water conservation forest which is developing to the top ecosystem.

Historical evolution

It is a provincial nature reserve approved by the people's Government of Guangdong Province in 1998. In 2002, the Management Office of Yangdongshan 12 Dushui Provincial Nature Reserve in Lechang, Guangdong Province was established.

Location context

Yangdongshan Shierdushui Provincial Nature Reserve is located in the northeast of Lechang City, Guangdong Province, between 113 ° 23 ′ 09 ″ e to 113 ° 29 ′ 32 ″ E and 25 ° 11 ′ 06 ″ n to 25 ° 22 ′ 47 ″ n. The Reserve spans Jiufeng, Wushan, BEIXIANG, langtian four towns and Longshan Forest farm from north to south.

Geology and geomorphology

The exposed bedding in and around the reserve is mainly Sinian, Cambrian and Middle Devonian in Longshan. The surface of the area is mainly granite body, and others are metamorphic quartz sandstone, quartz sandstone and quartz hard rock. The landform features belong to Nanling Mountain, with the highest altitude of 1726.6 meters. There are 99 peaks above 1000 meters in Jiufeng Mountain. The main geomorphic type of the reserve is middle mountain.

The main soil types are mountain red soil, mountain yellow soil, mountain shrub meadow soil, lime soil and paddy soil.

Climate and hydrology

The climate in the region belongs to the mid subtropical monsoon climate, which is characterized by the transition between the south subtropical and the mid subtropical regions with sufficient light, warm and humid, and abundant rainfall. The annual accumulated temperature ≥ 10 ℃ is 6386.5 ℃, and the frost free period is 300 days. The average annual temperature is 18.1-19.9 ℃, the average monthly temperature in January is 7.7-9.6 ℃, and the average temperature in August is 26.2-28.1 ℃. The annual precipitation is more than 1700-1800mm, and the precipitation is mainly concentrated in March to August. Langtian River and Jiufeng River, which originate from the nature reserve, are tributaries of Wujiang River in Lechang, with an average flow of 292.4 million cubic meters and 227.7 million cubic meters respectively.

The total area of Yuechang Yangdongshan dodushui nature reserve is 11651 hectares, including 5188 hectares of core area, 2809 hectares of buffer area and 3654 hectares of experimental area.

Biological resources

Up to 2012, there are 1548 species of vascular plants belonging to 726 genera of 224 families in the reserve, among which 16 species belong to the first and second class national protection plants, such as boleshu and Taxus chinensis var. mairei.

As of 2012, there are 163 species of animal resources in the reserve, belonging to 21 orders, 55 families, and 20 species of animals belonging to class I and II of national protection. There are also nearly 5000 hectares of contiguous Pinus kwangtungensis communities in the reserve.

Management organization

In 2002, the editorial board of Guangdong Province agreed to establish the Management Office of Yangdongshan 12 Dushui Provincial Nature Reserve in Lechang, Guangdong Province as a public institution at the deputy department level. There are a director's office, a deputy director's office, a comprehensive department, a scientific research and education department and a management and protection department in the Management Office of the nature reserve; there are also conference rooms, reception rooms, specimen rooms, demonstration halls and exhibition halls in the comprehensive building of the nature reserve.

The landform of Yangdongshan shierdu water reserve is complex and diverse, from the planation surface area with relatively gentle, wide valley, deep soil layer and sufficient water source to the mountains with steep slope and deep gully, which constitutes a relatively complex, complete and stable forest ecosystem.

Yangdongshan-12dushui nature reserve is located on the south slope of Nanling Mountain. It is mainly composed of Cathaysian flora, with tropical and temperate elements. It is an important region of transition from south subtropical to middle subtropical with complex floristic composition. The flora of wild animals and plants is dominated by subtropical distribution type, with less tropical, temperate and world-wide elements. The zonal vegetation is a typical evergreen broad-leaved forest composed of Fagaceae, Theaceae, Lauraceae, Hamamelidaceae and other tree species. There are many vegetation types, and some tropical and temperate plant communities also extend in this region. Therefore, the protection of wild animals and plants in Yangdongshan twelve degrees water reserve is of great significance for the geographical distribution and research of animals and plants in South China and even the whole of China.
