Shaoyang building

Shaoyang building was built on the top of Lianhua Mountain in Shaoguan National Forest Park. The building faces northwest from southeast. It is an excellent perspective to look at the urban area from the pavilion or the pavilion from the urban area. The floor plan of the building is composed of "Ya" shape and "Shi" shape, which echoes the meaning of Lianhua Mountain, forming a concentrated and distinct primary and secondary shape. In addition, the eaves and columns of each floor are gradually collected, and the flat seat railings and flexible wings and corners are raised, so that people can feel solemn and rich, generous and spiritual. The five floors of Shaoguan building, 42.8 meters high, and five levels of Jin Mu's water and fire soil five lines, constitute the essence of the world's essence for China's traditional philosophy.

Development history

Shaoyang building: according to the records of Guangdong Tongzhi before the Qing Dynasty, Shaoyang building was built in Shaocheng in the early Tang Dynasty, but the specific year of its construction was not recorded. In the middle and late Qing Dynasty, Shaozhou Prefecture annals and Qujiang County annals also recorded that it was "outside the south gate, near the river, with no examination of its founding, but abandoned at the end of the Yuan Dynasty". Xu Hun, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, has a seven character poem "Shaoyang building banquet in Shaozhou", which proves that Shaoyang building existed in Shaozhou in the Tang Dynasty. From the specific description of the poem, we can infer that this building should have been a famous building with a large scale and high grade at that time.

In June 2006, the municipal Party committee and the municipal government decided to build Shaoyang building in order to improve the cultural taste of Shaocheng and speed up the construction of a famous landscape city. In June 2007, the construction of Shaoyang building was officially started. With the hard work of all parties concerned for more than two years, Shaoyang building was completed on October 18, 2009.

The building adopts the Chinese classical architectural style of Tang and Song Dynasties, which is in line with the prosperity of Tang and Song dynasties in Shaozhou. It reflects the ancient architecture of Lingnan, the grandeur of the north and the beauty of the South as a whole. In the details, it adopts some typical local architectural features of ancient architecture in northern Guangdong, such as flower shaped arch, moon beam, cross Fang components, etc., highlighting the local architectural features. Shaoyang building covers an area of 1938 square meters and a construction area of 2995 square meters.

Each floor of Shaoyang building has a cultural theme, which are "depending on heaven", "hearing Shaoming Phoenix", "Zen bell melodious", "bearing for thousands of years" and "Lotus Peak charm". Through these cultural theme settings, taking the most representative historical events (Legends) and cultural celebrities in Shaoguan as the theme, the murals are created with different materials and expression techniques, so that people can know Shaoguan's basic history and culture, enjoy art and feel that Shaoguan is a real historical and cultural city.

The completion of Shaoyang building will become a new landscape landmark in Shaoguan City, further enhance the cultural taste of Shaoguan City, further beautify the famous landscape city, and add a fairyland to the beautiful lotus mountain.

Main attractions

Lianhuashan ancient pagoda base site

The ancient pagoda foundation site was discovered by chance during the leveling project of Shaoyang building. The present pagoda foundation site is protected in situ.

The tower base is a plane hexagon, 5.85 meters long, 2.5 meters deep, covering an area of about 102 square meters, with a southeast to northwest direction of 340 degrees. The base of the tower is built with limestone stones and a green brick wall. In front of the tower gate, there are four stone steps. The pillar of the first step is peach shaped, and the platform is semicircular. The gallery at the base of the tower is paved with stone slabs. There are only two layers of green bricks on the wall of the tower body, which are laid with staggered joints horizontally. There are four column foundations built with stone slabs and green bricks in the four opposite corners of the tower. When clearing the base of the tower, it was found that on one side of the stone plaque, there were four characters of "depending on heaven and earth", surrounded by auspicious patterns such as bats and Ruyi. The horizontal plaque may be the door plaque of the ancient pagoda.

From the shape and structure of the building at the bottom of the tower and a tile unearthed, it can be initially determined as a Qing Dynasty building. However, no description of this tower has been found in the relevant local historical records and other documents, so it is difficult to determine its name and exact historical date, which needs further research in the future.

The discovery of the ancient pagoda base is of great significance for the study of the history of Shaoguan and the architectural style of the ancient pagoda base.
