Wogong Temple

Located in the east of ximatang in the eastern suburb of Tianchang City, Wogong temple was built in the 36th year of Jiajing reign of Ming Dynasty. At that time, the Japanese pirates invaded Tianchang from Yangzhou. The famous Anti Japanese general wotian led his troops to fight bravely and died unfortunately. To commemorate his achievements, county magistrate Huang Tairan was ordered to set up a memorial temple. Wo Gong, surnamed Wo and named Tian, was born in Dengzhou, Shandong Province. He was born in the military examination. He was a hereditary commander of Jin Shi. Later, he became a military Jinshi. He was in charge of Jin Shi in the capital of Zhejiang Province and guarded Jiangsu Yizheng. He was a general who fought against Japanese pirates in the Ming Dynasty. He died bravely in 1557.

Wogong ancestral hall was first built in the 36th year of Jiajing period. It has three main rooms with a divine platform in the center for the spirit card of Wogong. There are stone tablets in the temple, which record the life and main deeds of Wo Gong. The ancestral hall was destroyed.

Architectural features

In 1983, Wogong temple was rebuilt. The rebuilt Wogong temple covers an area of 5340 square meters, with a construction area of nearly 400 square meters. It consists of an entrance hall, a display hall and a ancestral hall. Behind the ancestral hall is wo cemetery. The whole building of Wogong ancestral hall adopts the wooden structure of small tiles with blue bricks, flower ridges and cornices, maintaining the architectural style of Ming Dynasty. In the ancestral hall, there is a statue of Wo Gong, whose life story is displayed for tourists to visit.
