Yuewang city site

The Yuewang city site is located at the top of the City mountain in Xiaoshan District and Xianghu tourist resort, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, with an altitude of 128 meters. It is an important military castle where King Gou Jian stationed troops to fight against Wu. It is known as "a famous mountain in the Zhou Dynasty and the yuedai Dynasty".

The area of the city is about 20000 square meters. The total length of the city wall is about 1091 meters. The bottom width of the remaining wall is 8-10 meters, the upper width is 1-2 meters, and the height is 3-5 meters. The middle is low and the surrounding height is high. The upper part is the artificially rammed wall. The plane is in the shape of a horizontal gourd. The inner part of the wall is gentle and the outer part is steep. There are springs and pools in the city, and there is a passageway between the north and South ridges, which is called "Mamen". On the stone wall of Mamen, the original "Jincheng Yuyu" cliff stone carving was destroyed in the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.

Yuewang city site is the best preserved ancient city wall site in China so far. In 1989, the people's Government of Zhejiang Province named it a key cultural relics protection unit.

In 1991, Zhejiang provincial and municipal cultural relics departments excavated stone knives, stone sculptures, printed hard pottery, primitive celadon and other cultural relics in the castle, which proved to be cultural relics from the late spring and Autumn period to the Warring States period.

For thousands of years, countless poets have been searching for the remains of Gujian and writing a lot of poems about the ancient city and mountain. Therefore, it is known as one of the "eight scenes of Xianghu Lake" in the old times.

The scenic spot is divided into two parts: at the foot of the mountain is Chengshan square, with "Chengshan nostalgia" memorial archway, Linshui ancestral Road Pavilion, yuewangcheng Mountain Gate, Longjing Shuangyong and other scenic spots; at the top of the mountain is yuewangcheng ruins landscape, with Chengshan ancient road, yuewangcheng ruins, ximachi, foyan spring ruins, yuewangci, Guyue Pavilion, Wanghu Pavilion, WoXinChangDan and other scenic spots.

Yuewang City Heritage Park was officially opened on September 1, 2014.

"The king of Yue fed the fish and retreated the enemy" actually owes it to the two fish in ximachi. Two fish saved the lives of 3000 soldiers of the Yue army, and two fish saved the people of the whole Yue country. This is the wisdom of the Yue people, the wisdom of the Yue monarchs and ministers. The king of Yue left the most valuable enlightenment to later generations. The historical records of ximachi, the city of King Yue, can be found in the local records of Kuaiji written by Chen Xiahou of the Southern Dynasty: "King Wu gave salt (FISH) to the king of Yue as a gift.
