Located in the New District of Kaifeng City, Henan Province, Kaifeng museum is a local comprehensive museum integrating exhibition, cultural relics collection, cultural relics protection, scientific research, publicity and education. Kaifeng museum was founded in 1962, formerly known as Kaifeng exhibition hall. In March 2014, the construction of the new museum of Kaifeng City was officially started and opened to the public in March 2018.

With a total construction area of 54286 square meters, Kaifeng Museum has four exhibition halls, including the collection of fine stone carvings exhibition, Kaifeng Zhuxian wood engraving exhibition, Kaifeng ancient civilization exhibition and the historical and cultural display of Tokyo City in the Northern Song Dynasty. As of September 2019, there are 80000 cultural relics in the collection of Kaifeng Museum.

Kaifeng City Museum was rated as the national second level museum in 2008

In 2016, it was rated as a national first-class Museum.

Historical evolution

In 1962, Kaifeng museum was built.

In March 2014, the construction of the new museum of Kaifeng City started.

On April 21, 2016, the old museum of Kaifeng City was closed.

In March 2018, the new museum of Kaifeng was opened to the public.

The total construction area of Kaifeng museum is 54286 square meters. It is divided into seven functional areas, including exhibition area, public service area, collection storage area, cultural relic restoration area, academic research area, administrative office area and logistics equipment area. It has VIP room, conference room, Youth Activity Center, academic lecture hall, 4D cinema and other service facilities. The permanent exhibition hall of Kaifeng Museum consists of four exhibition halls: the collection of fine stone carvings exhibition, the Kaifeng Zhuxian wood engraving exhibition, the Kaifeng ancient civilization exhibition and the historical and cultural display of Tokyo City in the Northern Song Dynasty.
