Yellow River Museum

Yellow River Museum, founded in 1955, is located at 402 Yingbin Road, the intersection of Huayuan road and Yingbin Road in Zhengzhou. It is subordinate to the Yellow River Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of water resources. The Yellow River Museum covers an area of 7000 square meters, with a building area of about 2900 square meters, including a display area of 1200 square meters.

As one of the earliest River museums in the world, the Yellow River Museum is the only natural science and Technology Museum in China with the Yellow River as its theme content by 2016, which is subordinate to the Yellow River Water Conservancy Commission of the Ministry of water resources. The predecessor of the Yellow River Museum is the "Exhibition on harnessing the Yellow River", which was established in 1955. In June 1987, it was officially renamed the Yellow River Museum, and Mr. Shu Tong inscribed the name of the museum.

In 2016, the Yellow River Museum has become a patriotic education base, moral education base, quality education base and social practice base for many universities and technical secondary schools.

On October 11, 2018, he was selected into the list of "national primary and secondary students' research and practice education base".

Development history

In the winter of 1954, the predecessor of the Yellow River Museum was built in 1955. It is a natural science and technology museum with the Yellow River as the theme. In 1957, it was renamed "exhibition hall of harnessing the Yellow River" and "exhibition of harnessing the Yellow River" was established. In 1972, it was renamed as "Yellow River exhibition hall"; with the development of Yellow River control, the collection is increasingly rich and the function is increasingly perfect.

In 1986, it was officially renamed the Yellow River Museum. Since 1991, it has been awarded "Zhengzhou patriotism education base", "Zhengzhou Youth Activity Center" and "Yellow River system patriotism education base". In 1996, it was named "Zhengzhou patriotism education base" by the Propaganda Department of Zhengzhou municipal Party committee; in 1998, it was named "Yellow River system patriotism education base" by the Yellow River Committee. In 2002, it was named "China Youth Science and technology innovation action base" by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and all China Youth Federation.

At the end of 2005, the new museum, covering an area of 40 mu and a construction area of 7045 square meters, began construction. The new museum is located in the north gate of Zhengzhou City, facing the Yellow River in the north, Yingbin Road in the south, Huayuan road in the West and Zhongzhou Avenue in the East. On September 27, 2012, the new museum at the intersection of Huayuan road and Yingbin Road was fully completed and opened to the public free of charge.

Basin geography

Through the formation of the Yellow River, ancient ecology and Jiuqu Yellow River, the basin geography exhibition area shows the natural geography, landform, climate and products of the Yellow River.

National cradle

The national cradle exhibition area displays the long history of the development of the Yellow River civilization and the splendid Yellow River culture through five units of "living by water", "light of civilization", "ancestor of humanity", "center of Dynasty" and "splendid culture".

Harnessing the river for thousands of years

Qianqiu river control exhibition area shows the development and evolution of ancient and modern China's Yellow River flood disaster, control strategy, control technology and water transport irrigation through four units of Yellow River flood, spring and autumn, water transport irrigation and river god sacrifice.

New chapter of river management

The exhibition area of the new chapter of harnessing the Yellow River shows the major measures and achievements of harnessing and developing the Yellow River since the founding of new China through five units: the return of the Yellow River, river basin planning, flood control and ice control, resource utilization and soil and water conservation.

Harmony between human and water

The road to harmony exhibition area shows the new problems, new challenges, new ideas and practices of the Yellow River governance through three units: new problems and new challenges, new ideas and new measures, new clarion call and new journey.

Important events

In August 2010, in recognition of Professor Wang Guoan from the survey and Design Institute of the Yellow River Commission who donated more than 200 pieces of yellow river stones to our museum, the Yellow River Commission held a grand donation ceremony.

On June 20, 2013, sun Xiaoqun, leader of the third inspection group of the CPC Central Committee, and a group of five people, accompanied by Chen Xiaojiang, director of the Yellow River Water Conservancy Commission, visited the Yellow River Museum.

On July 15, 2013, Jing Zhengshu, President of China Water Conservancy Society and former Vice Minister of the Ministry of water resources, accompanied by Xu Cheng, deputy director of the Yellow River Water Conservancy Commission, visited the New Yellow River Museum.

On July 4, 2014, Mr. Herbert EKU of South Asia sustainable development administration of the world bank, who inspected and studied the experience of water resources management in the Yellow River Basin, and water conservancy experts and officials from India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and other South Asian countries visited the Yellow River Museum.

On July 14, 2014, Hao Bocun, a 95 year old senior general of the Chinese Kuomintang and former head of Taiwan's administrative organ, and his party of 14 came to the Yellow River Museum for a visit and discussion.

On the morning of January 6, 2015, Li Yinglong, member of the Standing Committee of the Kaifu District CPC Committee and Minister of publicity, and his party visited the Yellow River Museum.

It has been praised as the "miniature of the Yellow River Dragon" by audiences at home and abroad.

As of 2016, the Yellow River Museum has received millions of Chinese and foreign visitors, including Mao Zedong, Zhu De and other state leaders, foreign heads of state, famous scientists and so on. It has become an important place to carry forward the excellent cultural heritage of the Chinese nation, disseminate scientific knowledge of water conservancy, publicize the achievements of modern Yellow River control, and enhance the public's awareness of water disasters.
