Former site of Ta Kung Pao

Ta Kung Pao, which was first published in Tianjin, has three former sites in Tianjin. During several large-scale urban reconstruction, the original site of Ta Kung Pao in 1902 and the printing plant of Ta Kung Pao in Harbin Road were demolished one after another. Now only one former site, which was built and put into use in 1906, is left in simianzhong, the most prosperous Jinjie (Heping Road) in Tianjin. As Ta Kung Pao moved to Beijing in 1957, the newspaper donated the building to the state free of charge. This three story Japanese style building is still in good condition. In the past half century, Ta Kung Pao has spent the most glorious time here. Many famous journalists at home and abroad, including Fan Changjiang, became famous during this period, and countless famous works that shocked the world were published here.

Preservation of the site

In recent years, due to the large-scale urban reconstruction and Haihe River Development in Tianjin, the former site is also in danger. For this reason, in order to keep the old site, our reporter rushed around, members of the Tianjin Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference and people of insight also visited the site for many times, and called for the retention of the old site in the form of a proposal. The famous writer Feng Jicai proposed to set up the Ta Kung Pao museum here. In Tianjin Haihe River Reconstruction Phase II project planning, this building is included in the demolition scope. In order to protect this unusual building, Zhang Lichang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Tianjin municipal Party committee, once gave instructions on this building: "we can keep it as much as possible. Not long ago, when meeting with Wang Guohua, President of Ta Kung Pao, and his party in Hong Kong, mayor Dai Xianglong also said that the site should be preserved as far as possible.

Cultural brand

However, there is still no clear statement on whether to reserve it or not. On the eve of the six hundred years since the establishment of the city of Tianjin, the reporter interviewed Zhao Wengang, director of the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of cultural relics, in the newly built Tianjin Museum. This archaeologist made it clear that the municipal Party committee and the municipal government have repeatedly proposed to improve the cultural taste of Tianjin. Ta Kung Pao is not only a world-famous newspaper, but also a proud cultural brand of Tianjin. The former site of Ta Kung Pao is also the only existing site in Tianjin. After research, the old site here must not only be preserved, but also upgraded from a district level cultural relic protection unit to a municipal level cultural relic protection unit, and will be fully utilized in the future.

After the first phase reconstruction of Haihe River, the building between Dagongbao site and Haihe River has been demolished, directly facing Haihe River. If the old site here is preserved, the former site of Ta Kung Pao will become a cultural highlight on the Bank of the Haihe River for people to look forward to and browse.
