The origin of Xiaoxiang Pavilion

In order to build Yongzhou's culture and tourism, Yongzhou Municipal Party committee and government planned the construction of Shuiyun Xiaoxiang. On the morning of June 9, 18 members of the expert group, led by Liang Jianjun, an internationally registered tourism consultant, visiting professor of Peking University Strategic Institute, vice president of Beijing University Boya strategic tourism landscape planning and Design Institute, President of Shanghai Institute and chief planner, proposed to build Xiaoxiang Pavilion in Yongzhou. The story of Yueyang Tower mentions "Xiaoxiang in Antarctica". The construction of Xiaoxiang Pavilion in Yongzhou echoes with Yueyang Tower, giving people the feeling that "Xiaoxiang is everywhere".

In order to cooperate with the declaration of the national historical and cultural city and consolidate the foundation for the establishment of the city, our city decided to start the construction of Xiaoxiang Pavilion project to create an architectural landscape with Huxiang cultural characteristics and significant regional characteristics, and fully display Yongzhou's long and profound history and culture.

According to the Research Forum on June 9, 2012, Xiaoxiang Pavilion plays a leading role and should be built at the commanding height of Yongzhou.

According to the latest announcement of Yongzhou Municipal Government on November 26, 2015, Xiaoxiang Pavilion is planned to be built near Pingdao, the confluence area of Xiangjiang River and Xiaoshui River in Lingling District, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province.

historical background

Yongzhou is known as "Xiaoxiang" since ancient times because of the confluence of Xiangjiang River and Xiaoshui river. It is the location of "Xiaoxiang night rain" and "Pingzhou spring rise" which are the first eight scenic spots in Hunan. Lu You, a poet of the Song Dynasty, praised Yongzhou for its outstanding people and picturesque scenery with a poem of "if you don't reach Xiaoxiang, there will be no poem".

At the confluence of Xiangjiang River and Xiaoshui River in the north of Yongzhou ancient city, there used to be a very prosperous and famous Xiaoxiang town. It has a long history. It originated in the Tang Dynasty, flourished in the Five Dynasties, continued in the song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and declined in the early years of the Republic of China. It has gone through seven dynasties for more than 1200 years. It is really a millennium old town.

Xiaoxiang temple, located on the opposite bank of Pingdao island and on the East Bank of Xiaoshui, is the only Xiangfei Temple along the Xiangjiang River. It records the earliest love story in China - the legend of the relationship between Yushun and Xiangfei.
